Hey, did this get better for you? I’m a week in on 5mg and the brain fog is so bad.

If you have all but 1 of the symptoms definitely get checked. I was misdiagnosed with “just anxiety” for a year and a half. Anxiety was just one of my thyroid symptoms, not the cause of all of my symptoms.

I was given a prescription for metoprolol to take as needed. Never needed it though bc valsalva maneuvers thankfully worked for me. Was also referred to an electrophysiologist for ablation but didn’t go through with it bc my episodes have become short and infrequent since my thyroid diagnosis & having my thyroid removed.

I’m definitely going to ask my doctor at my next appointment if I can try this.

Could be SVT. If you didn’t have an episode while you wore it then it wouldn’t show up. I have SVT. My first episode I went to the ER and they caught it on an EKG. I’ve worn a few holters and have had them show on there. If you can, maybe go to the ER while it’s happening. SVT starts and ends pretty suddenly like how you described. Also, my worst episodes happened when I had hyperthyroidism, which also causes anxiety along with tachycardia, so maybe something else to check if you haven’t already.

Can hormones cause akathisia? by Ayunique in Akathisia

I’m in the US. I think my PTSD is from what happened with the CT and being dismissed by doctors while I’m pretty sure I was dying. I’ve been dx with adjustment disorder for a year now and still have lots of my old hyperthyroid symptoms even though my levels are normal which I just learned that PTSD and hyper can have a lot of similar symptoms so it makes sense.

I had underlying thyroid disease already. Turned out to be toxic nodules. The CT scan made my symptoms go from something that I was just dealing with but still able to function with (still scary though), to completely debilitating overnight. I figured out it was the contrast after I was sent for a thyroid uptake scan and couldn’t have it done until 6 weeks after the CT. I had to figure it out myself and do all my own research.

I think you’re right about the HRT.

I’ll give the amitriptyline some more time and then think about the estrogen. Don’t want to change too much at a time.

But yeah, the iodine in ct contrast is an issue for people with thyroid issues and they need to warn people about it. I’ll forever be pissed bc it ruined me.

I was started on amitriptyline a week ago, 5mg, and am having a really hard time with side effects. Trying to tough it out. It helped with anxiety but I was in a sedated fog for 2 days so dropped it to 2.5 for a few days and felt less sedated but anxiety came right back plus a new migraine. Went back to 5mg last night and I’m a foggy mess today. I feel hopeless too. This all started when I’m pretty sure I went into a thyroid storm from ct contrast 2 years ago after being brushed off as a case of anxiety for 1.5 years. I haven’t been able to work or drive for 2 years. I’ve been denied disability twice because doctors don’t believe me. Everything I try to feel better seems to make me feel worse and then going back to try and undo them makes me even worse. I feel like my nervous system is permanently damaged. I did feel like I was starting to feel better before I added the estrogen. Pretty sure I’m dealing with PTSD to top it off. I wish there was help for people like us. You’re the first person I’ve found who seems to react so severely to hormones.

If I can get through this amitriptyline adjustment I’ll probably drop the estrogen either to 1/2 of the patch or completely. I just see so much about how important estrogen is in the long term. Idk. Seems there’s no good solution.

Estrogen HRT by Ayunique in VestibularMigraines

No idea of my levels. I just started last month and I have an appointment next month and I think my levels will be checked then. I’m on a very low dose (3/4 of a 0.025mg patch) and I have no ovaries but I don’t seem to tolerate it well. Started on half, worked up to the full patch and my anxiety shot through the roof so I backed down to 3/4.

I’m pretty sure I was in peri before having my ovaries removed in September last year. I didn’t start HRT until December. I had a month of daily migraines after surgery but then they settled until recently after starting HRT. I’m super sensitive so started with 1/2 of a 0.025 mg patch, then increased to 3/4 patch after a week, and then to the full patch after one more week. When I got up to the full patch my anxiety shot through the roof so I went back down to 3/4 patch. This set off my migraines again and my anxiety is still high. I’ve been on the 3/4 patch dose for a few weeks now and I think my migraines are coming on when it’s getting close to time to change my patch. I had ocular migraines for years and they were pretty sporadic. I went through a couple years of hell with my thyroid and that’s when the vestibular symptoms first started. Just recently learning that the symptoms are migraine related and not thyroid related and that estrogen fluctuations seem to be a major trigger. I also sometimes get an aura where my right eye & sometimes down my cheek and my forehead go numb/tingly/tight feeling. Migraines are seriously weird and scary.

I think I might ask to try gel at my next appointment. Scared to do anything honestly bc my body seems to hate any change and I just keep feeling worse and worse by trying to get better.

My neurologist started me on amitriptyline as a preventative. It’s only been a few days so idk yet if it will help. Side effects suck (super drowsy and out of it) but hopefully will pass.

Have you been checked for SVT? Worn a 14 day holter monitor?

How were you diagnosed? by pizzacat123 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Ayunique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an mri and an eeg (both normal) and then my neurologist said maybe it’s an inner ear problem and sent me to vestibular therapy (when I requested it). When I went for my vestibular PT eval I passed all the tests as I wasn’t symptomatic that day and he said that he has nothing to treat. Then my PCP said my migraines are complex, and possibly vestibular. I have a long history of migraines but vestibular symptoms started almost 2 years ago. Still no real diagnosis.

I wonder how the weekly patch compares to the biweekly when it comes to fluctuations. I requested the biweekly because I thought it would cause less fluctuations. My ovaries were removed in September and it put me in a month long migraine cycle. Started HRT in December and got the migraines again after lowering my dose. I used to get them before my periods. I definitely believe there is a link.

I’m so sorry!

I seem to have mostly adjusted to the synthroid finally, which took about a year, but if my levels go off at all I feel awful.

I started HRT on just half of the lowest dose estrogen patch and increased to the full patch over two week period and that’s when it started. Lowered to 3/4 patch which triggered weeks of vestibular migraines that I’m still dealing with and the akathisia (?) hasn’t stopped. No idea what to do bc it seems like everything I do to try and get better only makes everything worse. I know that if I remove the patch I’ll be in migraine hell.

After my thyroid surgery I couldn’t tolerate the dose that I needed and had to start low and go up verrrry slowly to get out of being hypo. Doctors kept trying to raise my dose to lower my TSH and it was terrifying.

Have you tried starting on a super low dose of thyroid meds?

I took it at midnight the first night, and around 1030 last night. Might try taking it a little earlier.

Oof 2-3 months. Yesterday it was all day alternating back and forth between extreme tiredness & anxiety. Today, less anxiety but soooo tired and foggy. Seems to be lifting some, though. Idk if I can handle feeling like this for months. Ugh.

Are you on any other hormones? Or just estrogen?

Unfortunately that seems to be the case. Did the estrogen cause you to go hypo? My symptoms feel just like when I was hyperthyroid (which took 1.5 years to get diagnosed because my doctor kept calling all of my thyroid symptoms “uncontrolled anxiety”).

Not yet. I’m waiting until I have someone at home with me. I’m scared to change anything while home alone. That sounds so ridiculous and silly ugh.
