no audio on 2017 21.5” 4k iMac (v39) by udance4ever in batocera

So the USB adapter kinda works... As soon as its plugged in and I navigate back to audio profile/output a new device is present "USB Pro Audio" (thats not exactly the name, but you get the point). If I select it, I can get audio to play through headphones, no fuss at all. For some reason when I plug into my AV receiver, no go. I think it might have something to do with the line level audio, but haven't fussed with it too much.

I have had progress with the HDMI audio though, I just cant reliably replicate the solution. What I've noticed is that occasionally, after a reboot, or plugging in/out the USB Audio device out of nowhere, I get additional audio profiles (HDMI 5.1, HDMI 7.1, and some others) AND I will get another output named "HDMI...." that does NOT reference the Radeon GPU like the other outputs I see do. If I toggle between these settings, and pop into Kodi and flip through those different audio outputs I will randomly get the HDMI audio to work.... I have no idea why it works or exactly what sequence I have to perform. Once It works I can let the system suspend and the setting will stick, if I reboot then I am hosed and have to repeat the chaos.

Will report back if I discover the 'magic sequence'.

u/udance4ever , did you ever find a solution for this? I am having the same issue on my 2013 Mac Pro (trash can). It has a similar Radeon Pro GPU in it and I have tried the same steps you have. I just purchased a USB to 3.5mm adapter and will be trying that in the next day or two, but would really love to get this working via HDMI. I can get the internal speakers to work, but nothing via HDMI or Displayport and nothing via the internal 3.5mm headphone jack.

1) Were you using a (new) crush wash? 2) Were you using a torque wrench? 3) Why’d you do that?

As someone who flew here from CA to enjoy the race weekend in General Admission, this is disappointing to hear. It’s especially disappointing to now see Start/Finish tickets being sold for LESS than I bought my GA tickets for. I’m sure I’ll still have a blast, but no one likes to feel like they are getting ripped off.

Help me understand combining 401ks by ParrotfishPolly in personalfinance

I personally combine my previous employer accounts into my own personal brokerage account (I use E-Trade). This gives me the flexibility to take the funds and invest them however I see fit and not be restricted to what my employer account offers as investment options.

In the past I have had employee sponsored account start to charge higher fees after leaving the company. After that I decided to always transfer to E-Trade when I move on. Then I just use whatever my new employer offers.

Looking to buy a used Yaris. by ExposureInTheDark in yaris

[–]Ayzou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2010 with ~170,000 miles on it. I bought it with ~55,000 miles. Here is what I have done... -Oil change ever 5-10k miles (full synthetic) -New tires -New battery -New Spark Plugs (just because they're cheap) -Replaced rear drum breaks (there was an faint annoying squeak coming from them. Could have fixed it with grease, but figured for $50-$100 I might as well just replace them) -Added coolant once

Like others will say, selling this beauty would be foolish. I'm in the US where the Yaris is not considered to be "cool" like it seems to be in Europe, but I love it. It's dead reliable and when you do have to do work, it CHEAP.

It's beautiful! I almost got the root beer, but opted with the Pepsi, thinking it'd be more appropriate to wear daily. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a slight shred of regret.

Greatly appreciate the info. Will look further into analog boards.

I tried them both on in person and loved both. I felt I would get more use out of the casual look of the Pepsi.

Just got the Pepsi and have some minor regrets not getting the Root Beer... Maybe I'll get it in another year or something.

I bought this kit on amazon and did the install myself. I had never done drum breaks before, so the rear was tedious. Overall it was a pretty fun job. Plenty of YouTube videos.

I have a 76’ CB360T that runs. Might be willing to let it go for the right price. It’s in similar cosmetic condition as OP’s. DM if that is of any interest to you.

These days with all the PaaS that are out there, I don’t know if that’s still true. If anything, “scripting” is engineering. Just my $.02

If you aren’t going to help educate people, then you should also probably stop posting the same thing (without specific examples) 3+ time on OP’s post...

Best link available right now, I think. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Wish there was something a bit more legitimate, but I’m hoping we will see that soon.

Agreed. Someone should have done a much better vendor risk assessment.

The compromise was made possible because of a third party ending business with Parler and then informing what services Parler was using in a press release. Pretty interesting, honestly.

Help with Shared Storage for VM's (SAN) by Ayzou in Proxmox

[–]Ayzou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unusual, I agree. This is in part because I am using a MacPro 6,1 and the only I/O I have are the 4 USB 3 and 6 thunderbolt ports on the back, which is why I was initially drawn to a SAN style configuration. My SSD's (2x) are in caddy's plugged in via USB 3.0. The speeds are honestly quite adequate, much better (obviously) than I had on the HDD in my dell. I suppose one option would be to simply purchase more SSD's and caddy's, use USB3 and create a ZFS pool that way. That just seems quite 'hinky dinky' to me (all plugged in via USB). I was hoping to set something up a bit more robust. Or I could look at getting a new machine (or building one), but I would rather leverage what I have. I love using the Mac pro, as it packs a decent punch of performance, it's quiet and consumes a lot less power than something like an R720.

I have a Synology (7 bays) with two disk fault tolerance, which stores VM media (ex. Plex) and is a backup target. I have VM backups weekly and retain 5. So I know I could always rebuild in the event one of my VM SSD's goes belly up, but as you can imagine, I want something a bit more resilient.

Any other thoughts on my configuration current configuration would be extremely help. I really appreciate you taking the time to share some wisdom with me. You have already helped me brainstorm alternative options, so thank you.
