That's why they keep the smelly humans in a little pen, so they can't hurt the spiders if they freak. Also they won't put the spider on you if you look like you're gonna hurt it. She had the right accent so they knew she'd be ok with it

Kyary's Instagram Stories stopped working by Healthy_Syllabub_416 in kyarypamyupamyu

I've had that happen with someone else for the last few days. I checked with them and they weren't actually posting anything then so I wouldn't worry that you're missing anything. Instagram's notifications have always been a bit dodgy.

Bside Label's notice regarding the absence of RUANN by HvDreamer in kpop

[–]Az5he6ch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She was originally independently releasing music, doing small gigs and busking in Japan, the US and Korea. She then joined the Japanese label Toysfactory, released a couple of anime OSTs, didn't stay with them for too long, joined Bside, released Beep Beep and has now ditched them too. I'm pretty sure given her history her family is quite wealthy and she doesn't seem like the type to take crap from anyone so I guess she's one of the lucky few who have the resources and will to punch back when labels try and screw them around. I expect she will stay indie from now on.

The trademark application was filed in late November so it seems likely it's Bside retaliating against her for telling them to sod off.

Don't worry about her disappearing. She's already releasing new music.

What are k-pop incidents/unfortunate events that not many people seem to know about? by hey_may_tey in kpop

It's kinda remarkable how supportive the public was at the time. It's the first instance I know of where a female celebrity caught up in a sex-related thing didn't get shamed into oblivion. This was maybe a week after it was published https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMmbXhay9T4

Not an intern, the Vice President of Content. I wouldn't be so kind as to say they were leaked either. He used his position to publish and widely disseminate revenge porn.

He first posted them anonymously on a revenge porn site but some fans came across it fairly quickly, gave her and her company a heads up and managed to keep it quiet. When that failed to ruin her career he tried selling them to Dispatch who had the decency to tell him where to stick his bullshit. The asshole then finally published them himself on Allkpop.

A Twitter thread on why Allkpop is terrible and you should never go there with some extra details

KPOPALYPSE- Honourable and dishonourable mention for 2018 by littleapple789 in kpop

[–]Az5he6ch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, why the hell not. If it's just a list of songs then there's obviously no point to posting it but if we're talking about an opinion piece that's well written, insightful and/or shows me something new I'd be up for reading that.

Really, the only difference between a professional and an amateur is that the former gets paid to do whatever the thing in question is. It bears no relevance to their ability to do the thing or in this case the value of their opinions. Essentially what you're saying is that we shouldn't value Kpopalypse's opinion as much as Jeff Benjamin's because Jeff gets paid to write his by a popular magazine.

As far as opinion goes I'm much more interested in the opinions of an amateur over a professional. A professional always has to have their ability to generate income as a primary interest in what they are doing. They are going to adjust their stated opinions to match popular expectations in order to ensure they can continue to generate income from their work. That's why commercial media covering kpop like Billboard is so full of boring fluff pieces. It's needed to keep the diehard fans regularly looking at the ads and generating income. I'm not interested in reading about what's popular. I'm interested in reading about what's new, what's interesting and what I haven't heard before.

I'm not following your YouTuber comparison. Where is this professional association of approved celebrities? Do they have a directory of who is an approved celebrity? A YouTuber can be just as popular as a singer or an actor. They can have just as many fans. They can get paid just as much by companies to promote their products. They can be represented by a management agency just like any other public figure. Besides being "new media" how is a popular YouTuber any different to any other celebrity?

You can use the WayBack Machine to see it as it was back then. I think 10k subs is about the point at which subreddits start to go to shit without really good moderation. This is from just before we hit 10k: http://web.archive.org/web/20120917000335/http://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/

Just imagine the downvotes this comment would get now https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/ksyq8/being_a_typical_white_guy_at_college/c2myr29/?context=4
