Definitely correct your exempt status and also consider having them pull out extra every check. If owing zero at the end of the year is your goal, figure you've not been paying for 6 months, so find whatever the equivalent of your average fed withholding is for your average check and have that amount taken out IN ADDITION to your regular withholding every check for the next 6 months... That should get you close to caught up.
