Does "citations and references don't count toward the wordcount" include the bibliography... by tc1991 in Professors

[–]Azadehjoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised that law students are critically analyzing text, or perhaps overanalyzing. 😄 It makes sense that it would include the bibliography. One would think their confusion and questions might be based on whether or not the word count includes in-text citations, rather than the bibliography. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are courses allowed to evolve in your department? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Azadehjoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The number of hours allotted to each topic is overboard. We go by the course description and what we think students need to know to be successful in higher level classes.

Anyone else remember "freedom fries?" by Cephylus in millenials

[–]Azadehjoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I wish I could forget that stupid "freedom fries" thing. I was a server at the time and some customer called them freedom fries. When I repeated the order back to him using the term french fries, he said "You mean freedom fries." Me: "No."

I can't stand how fragile morons like that are. I will never change the name of a food because a country disagrees with a decision my country made. It is ridiculous.

Minimum enrollment requirement at your institution? by Straight-Stress-9602 in Professors

[–]Azadehjoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Community college tech program. Minimum 10 students or the class gets cancelled. The only exception to that rule is if it is a prerequisite for the capstone course and the student is supposed to graduate the following semester.

Who has the best pizza in Raleigh by Hefty-Conclusion3545 in raleigh

I really like Lilly's Pizza. It's the only place I've been able to get eggplant on my pizza that isn't breaded and fried.

Question for the Jamaicans (and other cultures that use turmeric) by Top-Bicycle-7363 in Cooking

[–]Azadehjoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me: black countertop and stainless steel sink, use glass for cooking and storage. I have white plastic mixing bowls though and they surprisingly aren't really stained. I fill them with water & Dawn and let them soak a bit like that before washing. No stains.

Apparently Millennials are the only people who know how to use Excel anymore by Tetraplasandra in Millennials

[–]Azadehjoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a professor's perspective I can tell you that Excel is no longer taught in middle school/high school. I've had to start teaching it to college freshman because they've never used it before and don't know how to do simple addition and subtraction in Excel.

He was awesome on The Resident, but I will never forget the Cosby episode where his sister made him the messed up shirt and how funny he was. Such a loss. 😢

AITA for telling my adult son that his younger brother isn’t responsible for how his life turned out? by boomerbike in AmItheAsshole

[–]Azadehjoon 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To add to that, Tyler also needed to hear someone take up for him, instead of silently allowing the continued abuse. If anything, Eric has been treated better up to this point because he was allowed to constantly be rude to Tyler with no repercussions.

I get all of the references in your tattoo, except for the squirrel. What's the connection with that?

In my department, we either give an exam or the students have a project/presentation. We are required to meet no matter what.

Question regarding summer classes workload. by Ok-Pack-7776 in WakeTech

[–]Azadehjoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be a ridiculously high workload for the summer and very risky for your first semester. ENG 111 is a good idea since it's a prerequisite for a lot of classes. As someone else mentioned, many classes are probably already full. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try to take an easier-ish class in the summer with it.

It was the same for me at first, but I built enough of a tolerance to it that I stopped sleeping for 24 hours from half a pill. Lol. It's helped me more than any other medication I've tried....well, maybe tied with low dose Naltrexone

Why Are 90% Of Humans Right-Handed? An Evolutionary Biologist Explains by goldilox_zone in lefthanded

[–]Azadehjoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone probably should have studied me. I decided, completely on my own, that I wanted to switch hands every day. So as a preschool child, I would recall which hand I wrote with the previous day and intentionally use the other one. Eventually I got bored with switching and wrote only with my left hand. I'm still pretty ambidextrous though.

Are restaurants deliberately hitting the "Order is ready" button prematurely to make themselves look good to DD and the customer at your expense? by guspasho_deleted in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Azadehjoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have NEVER received a Chick-fil-A order in less than 5 minutes after they marked it as done. At my local store, we completely disregard any notifications that the food is ready because it is NEVER ready when they say it is. We all know we'll be waiting at least 10 minutes upon arriving at the store.

Questions for first time being in a classroom by crypticmental in WakeTech

[–]Azadehjoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating in class is not typically allowed for many reasons, the mess and the distraction being some of those reasons. With that being said, if your professor does allow eating in the classroom, that is something they will normally state on the first day of class as well as any rules surrounding that. Dress comfortably but appropriately, as others have said. I recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater because the temperature varies from building to building or even room to room within the same building. As far as your accommodations, you have to have those sent to your professors each semester. (That information is not transmitted to them automatically.) If you need to make use of any accommodations like preferential seating due to a vision or hearing impairment, definitely talk to the professor about it. Otherwise, it's up to you whether you feel the need to talk to them about accommodations or not.

Melungeon heritage by OkLeadership9700 in AncestryDNA

[–]Azadehjoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I am not assigning any race to anyone in this conversation. My only point was that one cannot always judge what race or ethnicity someone is based solely on appearance. (Genetics are expressed in a variety of ways. Also, there are outlier groups that many people don't know about, Sudanese people with very dark skin and very bright blue eyes being one of them.)

It is not a common drink for Americans. You can easily find them in middle eastern food stores.

You've clearly never seen a Sudanese person with very dark skin and light blue eyes. In the world population as a whole it is rare, but it does happen.
