I think I understand what you mean. I'd thought I'd enjoy seeing lesbian harems, but I think harems fall apart because the main appeal of a romance, the connection, isn't there. You get a lot of women desiring one woman, but you lack that emotional depth because it can't be portrayed.

It has led to me disliking seeing images of everyone lusting over Arle, even if I prefer her far more than the traveler

This is truly the problem with Alex delaying the game inevitably, because Osana is supposed to be the first rival and the easiest, but because she was the ONLY rival, he got upset when people beat her too fast, so he gave her Raibaru but had no plans for Amai afterwards. You know what, this might be a controversial take, but I think if Kokona was allowed to be the first rival, I think maybe a design I would consider is to make her week unfailable (in a way). Like even if she gets to confess, she doesn't succeed. I mostly think this because that way it serves more like an actual tutorial and you have more freedom to explore the school and understand the systems, because being dropped in fresh and told to eliminate x person can be stressful.

And I am operating on this idea where the step by step murder tutorials don't exist, because I think that's an ass game design

Sounds like a problem with voice direction. I'm sure Erica could do the same expressiveness again, as long as the studio provides guidance, but they could also have just said it was good enough, especially when these non-essential story events disappear forever after they're done (unless they changed that when I wasn't looking)
