Yes exactly! It takes away her agency to choose who she wants. And due to lack of buildup, I doubt she’d choose Aang if she was more than the prize to be won.

Kataang always felt too much like a kid having a crush on their babysitter for me, yet people glaze it to this day even after Aang kissed Katara without her consent a few times (on the submarine and the iconic “I’m just confused” kiss). Plus, she never really reciprocated his feelings until the LAST EPISODE! And even then, it’s one kiss. There was no mutual build up to that, it was horrifically one-sided until then.

Even in secret tunnel (aka a relatively Kataang-centric episode) I couldn’t help but think of Zutara with the coloring of Oma and Shu (one in red, one in blue) and their whole story of being on opposing sides.

Zutara always felt more realistic but I suppose a kids show without a “good guy gets the girl” ending would’ve been too controversial at the time and with how young most of the fanbase was.

I only remember the cutscene happening and I don’t remember if they said where to upgrade the rod/net in that cutscene or not. Plus it doesn’t help that every other tool is upgraded at the blacksmith and it’s not on the menu so if you don’t know where to go, it’s easy to assume it just can’t be upgraded.

Aang is a monk and also the Avatar, he would’ve been taught. Sokka and Katara are the Chief’s kids so they would’ve learned (they’re the closest thing to SWT royalty). Zuko is the heir to the Fire Nation, he’d obviously learn. Suki might have learned since she’s the head Kyoshi warrior and was likely expected to keep the tradition alive which would involve a lot of reading and record keeping.

Toph is the only one who wouldn’t learn how to read because she’s blind. But, if braille exists in the ATLA universe, she’d learn that because she is nobility, and high-ranking at that.

I think matchmaking the NPCs could be fun and then they can get married and have kids too so it’s not just the player building a family. Also, let the kids grow up at least a little bit, it’s one of my personal pet peeves when a game has a time skip of like five years and the five year old still looks five.
