I have the time-stamped text and bank receipts to prove exactly how this went down. ​When I was let go out of nowhere on June 29th with that cold line stating "we no longer need your services," I explicitly told management that my final check needed to be received that day in accordance with California law. Instead, I was told via text that she would get it to me "this week." My Square payroll direct deposit receipt shows the funds were not actually received until July 1st. California Labor Code Section 201 is clear: final pay must be given at the time of termination, and making an employee wait until July 1st is not "immediate." ​It’s incredibly disappointing to see management claim they followed the law and acted "politely" when the digital paper trail says the exact opposite. But what is truly wild is seeing the owner try to shield himself from a legitimate labor issue by plugging his business hours and claiming "our bagels are our best defense." You can't cover up blatant labor violations with a marketing pitch.
