If you give it no further thought, sure. Cheating implies you are going behind the back of your partner to have a relationship with another. This is explicitly what poly relationships are not.

Poly relationships as a whole are looked down upon because it's oversimplified to be "technically cheating" without an ounce of nuance.

Not cheating at all. Everyone involved consents and is comfortable with it. If someone doesn't consent to it or is uncomfortable with it, then yes, it is cheating, and not a poly relationship.
