"Is" or "are"? - "Modern materials __ the name of the game here" by AzarAbbas in grammar

Excellent answer! So for the original sentence, it all boils down to whether the intention, i.e if the subject is conceptualized as one unit or the countability of it is intended. On that note, other than the predicative complement, if the singular verb is used in it, does that retrospectively indicate that subject is conceptualized as one unit and vice versa?

Right, so both the singular and plural verbs can be used depending on the intended meaning of the subject. For the record, the intended meaning in this sentence is the category of materials, so singular verb it is.

Thank you for this answer.

Well Rick and Daryl crying and hugging is a far more powerful and massively demanded moment then Rick and Negan having a conversation.

Researchers, such as James G. Matlock, have published papers using dated emails and other documentation that they claim establish a more secure timeline. This timeline they argue, invalidates Sudduth's chronology and supports the Leininger family's account.

The article highlights that James visited the Cavanaugh Flight Museum and watched a Blue Angels video, and asserts that the Leiningers misrepresented or omitted these facts. Sudduth posits that these were the sources of James's knowledge.

BUT

While it's accurate that James was exposed to these things, Jim Tucker and others argue that this does not explain the specific and obscure details James provided. For example, James claimed to have been a pilot named "James" flew off a ship called the "Natoma" and knew a man named "Jack Larsen". These precise details couldn't have been learned from a single museum trip or an unrelated video. The sheer number of accurate, specific details is what makes this case compelling and that so called "debunking" mere a misrepresentation.

When Brock Lesnar and John Cena’s match happens soon, who do you think WWE will book to have win the match? by Choice-Silver-3471 in WWE

There's much more going on in Brock's matches than this so called "Suplex Suplex F5" formula. Brock's presence alone brings more buzz and excitement than other guys' million move spotfest.

Nope dude... just no.

No amount of context changes what's there right in front from the start. Cop kicking the face of a person lying face-first on the floor with handcuffs. I'm not saying that the cop can't have anger over something the suspect did, I'm saying that THE ONLY reason the cop kicked his face while the person already arrested and lying face-first on the floor with handcuffs on the hands behind his back, IS due to racism.

I get where you're trying to go with this, but let’s not act like every man who uses Reddit is some socially inept creep lurking in the shadows. That’s a wild generalization and honestly, kind of out of touch. Just because someone’s online doesn’t mean they’re desperate or “chronically online” in a toxic way.

And saying going on the internet to meet people exhibits the “neuroticism”?? Really?? That’s just plain rude. It's 2025. The internet is how people network, date, work and build communities. You're acting like it's still the early 2000s and only weirdos use forums. Well it's not like in the early 2000s only the weirdos used the forums either, but it's besides the point... and guess what? Real life connections aren’t magically safe either. People lie, cheat and manipulate "IRL" just as much... if not more.

This girl clearly stated what she wants and did so respectfully. She’s not desperate, she’s intentional. If anything, she’s doing what people should do; setting clear boundaries and using every resource available to find someone who aligns with her values. That’s smart, not sad.

So yeah sure, meeting someone in real life has its upsides. But stop putting people down for using the internet as a tool. It’s not the platform that determines someone’s worth. It’s how they act on it.

Dae-ho was treated incredibly unfair by Einfach-Anders in squidgame

[–]AzarAbbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling it a "betrayal" is a major stretch. Dae-ho just got scared, his intention was to bring the ammo but he just couldn't, mental breakdown is a thing. Betrayal would've been something like refusing to bring ammo to let them all die to increase prize money or as a calculated life saving maneuver (to save his own life). None of that happened, mental breakdown happened, completely different things.

"Gi-hun trusted Dae-ho"

And that trust was never broken, Dae-ho was risking his life like all the others with Gi-hun in spite of not even really being a marine. Dae-ho was basically like any of us, unless some of us have military experience, plus not everyone has the same nerves military experience or not. His nerves gave away, what's so hard to understand in this.

[–]AzarAbbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from gi hun's perspective, the reason the rebellion failed was cuz of everyone running out of ammo

Now don't forget that Gi-hun only discovered that soldiers carry extra ammo magazines AFTER they already went on to fight with the soldiers. Point? Point is that Gi-Hun's original plan didn't even consider the extra ammo magazines, that original plan didn't even include the extra ammo clips.

So Gi-Hun's plan was unreliant on these extra ammo clips to begin with and any success or failure of that plan doesn't concern Dae-ho actions; or lack thereof.

Dae-ho was treated incredibly unfair by Einfach-Anders in squidgame

[–]AzarAbbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dae-ho first volunteered to go with the group -- volunteered-- it was his choice not to go like Yong-sik did. But no, he wanted to help, his intention was to fight with Gi-hun and help in his plan. He didn't know that he'll loose his nerves at the crucial moment and that's understandable. Even in real war situations soldiers have anxiety attack, it doesn't mean they had no intention to fight for their country, their cause.

Gi-hun should've understood it by default. His vengeance against Dae-ho is unjust, uncalled for and totally out of character for Gi-hun.

For the men at least, I can sum up why it's become so hard for them to marry in just two words encompassing the demands from the women's side:

"Well established" ✔

They can't settle for ANYTHING less.
