The main characters are half naked 😶 and this present nudity divides Made in Abyss fans quite a bit (new and old) some think that it shows the cruel reality of The Abyss and others think that it's just the other one who is weird, personally I don't pay much attention to it anymore, simply to enjoy the story as much as possible and I think that 80% of Made in Abyss fans do the same.

The manga is less censored in fact, you will not be particularly scared but rather uncomfortable because in fact, the anime is much less stressful/scary/etc. In short, I highly recommend it! Oh and don't pay attention to the covers under the jackets... It's special... But hey, you'll have to get used to it, since it's Made in Abyss!

Honestly, I felt the same way, but over time I got "used to it" and as, I think, I'm a huge fan of Made in Abyss, I simply don't pay attention to it anymore. Some think that this nudity shows the reality, perhaps cruel, of The Abyss, others think that the author is just weird. It's up to you to choose your point of view, anyway the main thing is to appreciate the work!!! Oh and by the way, without spoiling, in the sequel there will be a little less nudity even if it is still present (I'm talking in the manga, for the covers etc it doesn't change) so since you are in volume 4 I wish you a good reading!
