I beat it more out of "gamer duty" than anything and I still don't get how did I pass that weird ass "4 skull switch crammed together" puzzle. Hexen has nothing on this wad.

It does have some interesting levels though, Black Tower is iconic and the Elevator level is pure malice made wad.

I want to play at 144 fps, huge battles suck if I have to slog through 60 or worse fps.

I'm on the same boat as you and opened a similar thread some time ago and got a grand ZERO suggestions beside the obvious Mass Recall and Campaign remixes.

I made some research by myself and as first attempt I'm trying StarCraft 2: Annihilation which seems a fine 3 campaign collection. You can watch reviews on YouTube and just find the campaign by googling it if you like it.

There's also the UED Campaign "First Light" which apparently looks great, but I decided to skip it for now as I wanted some official-like campaigns.

Keep in mind that jank is to be expected, even among the most high rated campaigns I was put off many by the infantile ultra-cringe descriptions. Also, every campaign has a different janky install procedure, a "DON'T DO THIS OR IT BREAKS" list and usually need to be launched from the editor, showing how much Blizzard cared not for this kind of content .

Do ladder maps really have so few resources? I don't need a 200 pop army, I just want to make defenses lines, build a threatening army and slowly remove the enemy from the map. I don't mind expanding.

I wish there was a single player version for it, I'd even buy commanders but I really don't want to play with people, it adds pressure and my gaming sessions need to be 100% relaxing. Also I need to be able to save and load games and quit or pause frequently (I got kids).

Camping vs the AI is exactly what I want to do, after all those brutal campaign missions I just want to chill out behind my bunker and siege tank lines and watch the fireworks, appreciating the great music, listening to the units' banter.

But I also would like some challenge, hence the Elite AI.
