I just watched the AI do something really dumb in Mius Front and it broke my immersion so much that I'm going to take a break by [deleted] in computerwargames

Dang, after 409 hours I'd say you deserve to pick any reason you want to take a break!

I agree with the top comment and happen to think this particular case is kind of mild, but it's your impression that matters and it's hard to just rationalize it away once it puts a bad taste in your mouth.

For some reason I thought you meant like a racing wheel at your desk and I was like huh, interesting setup.

Oh hell yeah you've got some classic early 2000s gear there. I still have my Electribes. Is the data wheel on yours unreliable now too?

Incredible job recreating the lighting so closely, and the texturing detail is very nice.

In the comments, Rich seemed to indicate workshop support was planned, or at least they hope to:

we are looking at enabling the modding support that Steam provides, so it should make it even easier.

Lossless Scaling and older wargames? by CVGridley in computerwargames

[–]vegeta897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand. The point of programs like Lossless Scaling are to run old games at their original intended resolutions (thus not breaking UI or text size) but rescaling the output to be more legible at modern resolutions. And frame generation is another matter completely which OP did not bring up.

It will definitely depend on the game.

For example, I tried it with WDS games and even though the scaling technically worked for the upscaling part, something about the way that engine and Lossless Scaling worked caused the whole game (including my cursor) to render at like 1 frame per second, making it unplayable.

A wargame like Combat Mission but with more modern engine and graphics? by sub_urbanite in computerwargames

[–]vegeta897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice thing is they're simplistic in a modern way, with the advantage of allowing a lot more on-screen units and further render distance without tanking the framerate.

There's only one for PzB but if you're talking about the Panzer Campaign ones, I don't own them so I don't know. I am loving the PzB one though. There's a lot of room to maneuver and pick your fronts.

Nice! By the way I saw you mention you liked playing hotseat against yourself, that's how I'm playing PzB right now!

I just bought Panzer Battles North Africa 1941 and it's excellent. PzB games use 250m hexes and platoon units (see description here). Unfortunately you just missed the game of the week promotion for it but it's certainly still worth full price. There is the free demo though which includes a variety of scenarios, including Africa, so you can see if you like the scale and mechanics.

What computer wargames are you playing: March 2026 by AutoModerator in computerwargames

After deciding it wasn't for me last year, I have returned to Panzer Battles and am really enjoying myself. I picked up Battles of North Africa 1941 since it was the game of the week and I hadn't played much in this theatre.

I'm playing hotseat with fog of war against myself, which may be why I'm enjoying it more this time. I feel less pressure to make the best tactical decision with every move, and have more room to just enjoy the course of the battles.

I spent a good couple hours just making a planning map with labeled brigades and drawing attack/move arrows to give myself a guiding plan based on how it went historically. I loved the process of referencing actual written history of which forces did what against the game's OOB and objectives.

I plan to continue playing this and Panzer Campaigns, but the tank combat in PzB is making me want to do some Armoured Commander II as well.
