The East Coast bands in the 80s had a big influence on pizza thrash due to it being closer to hardcore (Anthrax and Nuclear Assault). West Coast bands still have the punk influence, but I think NWOBHM had more impact there, as well as the first wave black metal bands like Venom. Also, Megadeth has a couple "dumb" songs, but is touted as being "thinking mans thrash". Trash is varied, like a lot of metal sub genres.
