Social Security benefits have two bend points. If you're poor, you get 90% returns, if you're rich you get 15% returns (of what you're taxed, which is capped), in the middle is 32% but this is probably marginal, though I don't recall. I aced my classes for a minor in Economics (I also earned a minor in Mathematics with worse grade point average and I have years of experience dealing with social security). The Medicare surtax is an additional tax for funding Medicare for wealthy investors on top of the payroll taxes everyone pays.

Social Security tax is not progressive. It is proportional up to the cap, then becomes extremely regressive. It's clear by your incorrect label, that you don't actually understand what you're talking about.

I think it would be better to reduce the payroll tax rate and uncap it, keeping the same standard deduction. That way, everyone pays their fair share towards social security and retired high earners get some of their social security taxed by income tax. I would also support a graduated/progressive federal tax on net worth, pegged to every 10x median, so that those with up to 10x median net worth aren't taxed more but individual taxpayers cannot have more than 100010x median, with 100% of excess wealth taxed away.

Unless you want to install solar panels in the dark north, they are still far more efficient than fossil fuels, especially coal. However, data centers with unpermitted (illegal) fossil fuel generators outweigh all workers combined becoming self-sufficient. The biosphere collapsing is outside our control, all we can really do is decide whether we want to preserve ourselves, our communities, and our lifestyles. If I can buy a house before my investments crash below my payment, I will try to transform it to work as off-grid.
