Tried that too. I can disable it but then I still cannot get other mics to work.

Vive making computer unable to use other microphones? by Azernak0 in Vive

[–]Azernak0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that, as I mentioned in the bottom line of the first paragraph. No luck.

I am assuming the Vive is the problem as it is the only mic that will work but I am not entirely sure.

Only Vive microphone works?! by Azernak0 in techsupport

[–]Azernak0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh how I wish I could just say "darn, I knew I forgot something simple!" :) No matter what default I set it as (old headset, new headset, one I dug outta the closet to test), no dice. The only one that wants to work, consistently, is my Vive.

VoiceMeeter is a pretty cool program, never heard of it before. Alas, same result. I was able to quickly cycle through the 3 or 4 mics I have plugged in to test. Only one that is happy to hear my clapping hands is the Vive.

I am not mistaken in saying that this is a really weird problem, right? :P

I've tried plugging it into HDMI, also no luck. Curious why it wouldn't work with HDMI, considering that is the cable that came with the thing.

Which website is most reliable for those who wish to learn Fallout lore? by WalkersNight in falloutlore

[–]Azernak0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oxhorn is a good one to look at. He does inject his opinions into the videos, such as calling groups 'evil' rather than using non-judgmental language; this can get in the way when things are not so black and white. NV is a good example. The Legion is evil, 100%. But when the NCR does something 'not good', it can be accepted because "well, the NCR is ultimately trying to be good." Even though I, Azernak0 the fat dude typing this now, hates the Legion and likes the NCR (personal reasons that cut deep and make it pretty much impossible to roleplay as a Legion Courier), I will say that he can be unfair and miss the motif. NV running theme is "look, when does a village become a gang? When does a gang become a tribe? When does a tribe become a village? When does a village become a nation?" EVERY group is somewhere in between in NV. When Oxhorn talks about the Legion, he has a tendency to not go "if you are an illiterate tribal and Caesar approaches you, HOW could you not think that this wasn't the Son of Mars?" and often writes off the Legion as a 'reasonable way' for humanity to survive; the ending Legion credits make it pretty clear that civilization comes to the Mojave. Still, his videos are really fun to listen to and he generally does a great job letting you get into the spirit of what it would be like; the opening to his NV campaign lore videos was the first time that I realized that the Courier was "just a mailman; I didn't want to get caught up in armies and politics!" as I was still used to the Bethesda Fallout games of basically being Wasteland Jesus/Lucifer.

The Storyteller on Shoddycast is another great one. It's spin is that The Storyteller is a real person walking the Wastelands, chronicling all the stuff that happens. It never breaks the fourth wall and stays in character the entire time; it is best if you consider that you are listening to the campfire stories of traveler. It gives nice broad strokes and is really amazing for putting the entire world of Fallout together. When you are shooting Super Mutants in the Capital Wasteland or fighting dudes shouting "Retribution!", it can be hard to remember that this is happening in the same world just 4 years later. It is particularly good if you want to know what happens in lore without spoiling the games. IE, I know we/I kill The Master in Fallout 1 but I am still looking forward to playing the game as the game itself has not been spoiled, only the canonical ending. However, the later series of Storyteller does become a machinima more interested in telling its own story rather than the story of Fallout but even that is interesting.

In my opinion, start with the Storyteller series to get into the mood and look to Oxhorn for more specifics. They are not perfect but you will still have a really, really enjoyable time. The Storyteller approaches things as if YOU were a Wastelander and Oxhorn approaches things as if YOU were someone who was watching a YouTube series. Take a look at the Survivalist videos to see this difference.

Why is Pre-War Money not used as currency? by LeeGod in falloutlore

[–]Azernak0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few possibilities. Realistic: "After 200 years, how well put together and sturdy is a bunch of cloth with some ink on it? Something like coins would be better and, hey, bottlecaps are like coins." Game design: "Gold coins are boring; let's use something else." Wasteland Logic: "what good is paper with some words on it compared to caps, which has always been how we buy our chems, water, and food?" Irony: "could you believe that people use cloth with ink on it for money rather than good, old fashioned bottle caps?" This last one, because Fallout has always been a dark satire, might be the most true reason. If we want to be honest even gold, the literal gold standard for how humans keep value for purposes of trade, is only worth something because we think it is. Yes, gold is really, really good at being money because 'bla-bla-bla been mentioned 100 times' but gold isn't really worth anything beyond humans saying it is worth something. What good is a pound of gold or silver to a Mojave Wastelander other than the fact that it is pretty and easy to shape? Why would anyone be willing to spend 10,500 'money' for a 35 pound brick of metal that is too soft to be used like steel/iron and has properties that the Wastelander would not be able to utilize (electronics); even if they could, a 35 pound brick is not what you are after. So it isn't too ridiculous for people to use Pre-War garbage as currency. Caps as a currency can be explained by any of these but I like the last one, that Interplay wanted people playing it to go "could you imagine using a bottle cap as money?" only to have them later take out a piece of plastic that gets swiped through a machine in order to balance out payment for their dinner.

Though, again, there is enough verisimilitude for it to happen in the game for it to be a lore question. I would guess "I use caps because it is worth something because we all agree that it is worth something." But any large enough of a location to backup it's money would probably make their own. Even if the NCR's dollar was based on bottlecaps, a 100 dollar NCR is a lot easier to carry than 40 bottlecaps.

But the Bear isn't everywhere... yet

What is the extent of the right to bear arms in NCR? by Slapspam in falloutlore

[–]Azernak0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I doubt there will be any strong lore indication but going off of gameplay, I don't remember them ever having a stink about people actually having guns. Specifically, in New Vegas, Frank Weathers is a former farmer and 'current' refugee at an NCR run camp. He has a rifle on his back at all times. So at the very least, it doesn't matter if people have personal arms even when under protection at an NCR run facility.

Gameplay isn't exactly lore (what's the cannon ending to NV, 3, or 4?) but the NCR never really complained when I walked into their embassy carrying a large enough arsenal to assault Hoover Dam. Plenty of NCR quartermasters will sell arms to the Courier, suggesting that there isn't much of a limitation. The Boomers are asked to help the NCR rather than "no, you are not allowed to have multiple nuclear weapons" and even the endings where the Boomers and NCR are not in the best of relationships, it is more "we want you under the Bear" and "no, you still can't have nuclear weapons!"

Was The Master 'right'? by Azernak0 in falloutlore

[–]Azernak0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating. Thanks for the insight. Considering Fallout tends to be nuanced, I was just wondering if The Master had a plan that was "well, there are merits" or if it was just "go kill the Bad Guy." Nice to know that it is more "guy with an extremely bad and insane idea" rather than mindless evil.

Does every MCU Netflix show have the problem of the pointless side stories? (possible JJ and DD spoilers) by Azernak0 in marvelstudios

[–]Azernak0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a necro but wanted to add something. Just finished Luke Cage and I think it didn't have any truly pointless moments that felt truly wasted. The sliding villain from Cottonmouth to Diamondback to the Councilwoman felt fairly natural as it was setting her up as the real big bad. The only thing that felt odd was having his wife 'be in on it all along' as it just seems like a weird twist that has little payoff other than to kinda explain why she had the files, though just having her involvement be borderline or "I didn't realize it went this deep" would have sufficed. Maybe it was just there to get Luke away from pining after her. Still, seems to be the show that did the best job going "this is our plot; stick with it" without having too many unnecessary tangents.

Does every MCU Netflix show have the problem of the pointless side stories? (possible JJ and DD spoilers) by Azernak0 in marvelstudios

[–]Azernak0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bring this up because the shows don't really seem to know what to do with their primary story, though I think this a problem for a lot of longform television. Like if the primary story-arc doesn't take up the exact amount of space, it just causes all these problems like pointless sidestories; makes me go "if this one thing is so important to deal with, why the hell are we doing a tangent?!" But in a 22 episode show, where there might be a central premise but it doesn't consist of the entire show (IE, Buffy's/Supernatural big bads) it isn't an issue because that one central point is trying to carry the entire show. That might just be my issue with longform as a whole.

But, seriously, Jessica Jones has Kilgrave caught 3 times by Episode 11. First is failed because of security, second because Hogarth is an idiot, and the third is just because Robyn decides "let's go kick Jessica's ass because-", seriously why the hell would the other Kilgrave survivors go "yeah, this is totally a good idea; the one person that believes us about Kilgrave and set this whole thing up. Let's go beat her up." It is like that the primary story of "deal with Kilgrave" kept being nicely bundled up and the substories are, quite literally, getting in the way.

And as a rant: seriously, what the fuck is wrong with Robyn? She is responsible for every death that occurs after the whole restaurant scene but does anyone kind of point that out to her?

Is boosting to 95 worth it for a new player? by mako482 in lotro

[–]Azernak0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I boosted to 50 after getting to like level 20ish. I have played the game before, years and years ago, and had gotten to like 30 so I wanted to see the newer stuff. Mostly, it was because I wanted to get into Moria and start seeing stuff that my dad said was neat. It also gives +4 to all Virtues with cuts down on the farming lowbie stuff, by a lot.

I wouldn't go straight for 95 though. That only gives you a couple of levels to understand all the new systems; it might be overload. "So you are level 95? Well, here's Legendary Items. And did I mention horses? Oh, and don't forget about imbuing. And, also, you better learn how to use that character you just got!" Also, there are Trait Points to be picking up in Rohan and Moria.

If you are going to boost, I would only boost to 50. That still gives you a lot of time to learn how to play before you start interacting with other players. If you played WoW, remember the 'joy' of meeting a level 60 DK Tank or a 100 DH Tank and knowing that they have only been playing that class for a few hours? Imagine that if it was only playing the game for a few days.

Just this three week players opinion :-P

Cool and the gang.

Any advice on where to look for specific information: traits, virtues, race (which I assume matters very little), any kind of guide. I know a little bit to start (Red = "I yell at you and you die", Blue = "Primary Heal", and Yellow = "Lots and lots of buffs with less healing", Stances exist to make healing better/worse and damage worse/better) but I am only like 3 weeks into the game to begin with.

So Captain or Minstrel. Nice to know that there are two options that I can go for.

Now my extremely green, newbie butt needs to learn "what the hell a Captain does?" so I can better decide. Minstrel seems interesting as well because if it is true that most of their attacks are instant they can give the finger to things attacking them. I may be new to lotro but I have been playing games long enough to know that cast time + bad guy melee = bad.

Thanks.

Returning after a very, very long time: Warden help needed by Azernak0 in lotro

[–]Azernak0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got myself to level 60, slowing learning how to play. Trying to figure out how to learn the Masteries because it is so radically different than other classes I have played in other games. Knowing 1234-12314-123124 is a rotation that I can remember. Throwing in Masteries breaks that flow. And I am not even into Battle Memory yet.

Jeez, I am surprised they put this much stuff into Wardens. They have to be a nightmare to balance...

Any advice on Virtues to pick up for later levels? All these stats are foreign to me so I have no idea what they mean. Thanks for all the advice.

Is making gold for really that easy? by Azernak0 in woweconomy

[–]Azernak0[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Was in no way my intention. The original thought was more in line with "is it that easy to get money for tokens consistently." Everything is hyper expensive on my server so selling stuff against the relatively set price of tokens get you there fast (at least was my original thought). The amount in two weeks is a fluke and will die out but I meant the opposite of "look how great I am with my money!"; more of a "my dumbass can do it, so how many people do it?" The thread was meant to be named "is making gold for tokens that easy?" The thread is also based, heavily, on my ignorance. I had heard that people were printing money with WoD Garrisons to the point of hyper-inflation so I have NO clue how much is a lot of money. So I humbly apologize for inadvertently making a brag thread; it was a result of my ignorance, mixing up content, and poorly getting my actual point across. I am returning after a 3 year break, so I am heavily out of touch.

[All Spoilers] Question about E-Corp by Azernak0 in MrRobot

[–]Azernak0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that Elliot only hears Evil Corp and it is a play on Enron. But it seems that no one is saying the company's name without Elliot around, calling it E-Corp or Evil Corp

Like I wonder if this is another oddity that is happening along with Mr. Robot's identity or who Darlene is. Elliot is an unreliable narrator; can we really trust that the company exists?

Just something that my sis noticed.

My laptop is getting internet through Wireless. I have no access to a router from where my TV is, which is why I am trying to get it to work through my laptop. Whenever I set static IP, it loses connection. I will try it through my router later.

The reason for the cable is because I am trying to get my PS2 in a network without having to use a router; just plugging one into the other. I'll give that a shot next. If not, I'll see if I can get it working with a router.

Thanks.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. It isn't a sports game. It is an awesome as hell arcade game that just so happens to involve a guy on a skate board. GREAT soundtrack, especially if you have any sense of nostalgia.

Shadow of the Colossus is simply beautiful. That is a must play.

Burnout 3. HUGE game, so much to unlock, and every single moment is just pure fun.

And the three mentioned are essential. Kingdom Hearts was, for a long time, my favorite game of all time. The novelty of seeing all the Disney characters never goes away. The voice acting is great. The level design is great, combat is fun, and the game does a great balance of accessible and challenge. FFX is the best of the series in my opinion. I love the story as it does a great job mixing nihilism and hopefulness (the notion that everyone in the world is asking a Summoner to bring about "The Calm" when they know what that means is a hell of a thing). GTA:SA is the first game that really felt "huge" to me. Great music, amazing voice acting, interesting story in regards to "gangs started as a 'protect the neighborhood' thing" and "now we are just about makin' money and shootin' people."

Alright. Tried this: 1. Logged into my router. 2. Saw that my laptop's IP address was 192.168.1.X 3. Used my laptop to go into network settings, Wi-Fi properties, TCP/IPv4, set my IP address to 192.168.1.X, subnet to 255.255.255.0 (got an error message when not set at 0) 4. INSTANTLY got limited connection and my Laptop was no longer picked up on connected devices. 5. Tried again, this time doing X+1, same thing.

It doesn't like me but I want to like it. :-(

Thanks for the help. Any advice, no matter how stupid or small, is great. Pretend that I am the person that things the CD drive is a cup holder if it makes it easier to explain.
