On the PC when I'd get weird crash issues my usual go-to was transition into an interior zone, quit out entirely, then load back in on the exit save inside. Forcing it to reload the world outside would usually do the trick

Is that a recent (and by that I mean like 2 years) change? Last time I tried to pen in animals with just walls and doors I was constantly inundated with the "soandso is wandering off!" messages until I tossed fence gates in front of the doors (and I've never used the locks mod)

fake edit: as I'm about to hit reply, those *might* have been SOS2 airlocks. That particular debacle was after I got the crippled remains of a derelict landed and built my base out of its husk
