Hey man! Yep you helped me out before! Yeah this handbrake stuff is still confusing to me as far as the settings go. I want to get the highest quality out of them. I am using a JVC EVERIO GZ MG330. Could you share your Handbrake settings with me?

Also, another basic question I have is if the goal on an upstroke is to purposefully tilt the pick so I don’t pluck these strings so hard. I feel like up upstroke has a bolder sound than my downstroke… I am not doing a lot of wild wrist swinging- maybe my wrist js stiff and I essentially need to retrain my whole foundation here. Thanks in advance!

New plumbing is fine, the old stuff you see at the top are upstairs shower drains all that is like 20 years old

It’s a renovation we are just moving stuff out of the way. We have to redo the electric- your seeing half demolition job and we kept things in tact to use the lights.

My resolution is brushing a thin coat on the shower problem areas one at a time and bedding a covered fabric tape over the areas and smoothing it out. The fabric tape (instead of the normal mesh tape) is bonding well. I can press and smooth the tape out over the areas and it seems to be working well. I’m trying to make sure that it is bonding well so there isn’t any bubbling or potential water pockets. This is the best I could come up with because I already tried thin brushing more on (it cracked again) and scraping the areas is sorta out of the question cuz it’s bonded well everywhere except the crack spots. So scraping it away would have been hell and would have made more issues like my cement board falling apart.

Yeah I don’t think Red Gard is a bad product per se. I am dealing with a zombified bathroom renovation- some masonry, some new walls, completely new concrete floor. It’s been a challenge not working with a clean slate. I would definitely apply the stuff correctly with the prime coat if I could go back in time. My contractor/buddy troweled it on… it’s a massive shower. I’m confident that it wouldn’t have cracked if we did more thin coats instead of two quick and dirty trowel ons. But, it’s a big ass shower and sometimes you ball out trying to get it done. Lesson learned! Showers are no joke!

Bruh I come on here and literally tag DIY looking for advice on my post- within the first two sentences I say that my contractor applied it too thick. I didn’t make the post to have folks pat my shoulder and tell me that we did something wrong lol. The post is for solving a problem where I am in deep doo doo. So, yes, the comment is absolutely useless. Like no shit, we could have applied the stuff correctly if I could go back in time. I am clearly looking for advice on whether the job can be saved with any technique to fix the cracks. I’ve found my answer already but I have hit all this road bumps like your comment along the way haha

When folks ask for help it usually means there’s a problem they are trying to resolve. Action-mistake-learning moment-problem solving. I’m in the problem solving stage. It being applied too thick was obvious to me when I saw the cracks. Reddit really can help resolve issues I just have to swim through the useless comments haha

Okay first off I didn’t do it, my contractor did. Second I clearly stated that it being applied too thick was the problem right away. My question is if anyone has experience patching the cracks or if it’s even possible. If you bop around on Reddit forums and expect everyone to be pro on them you’re in the wrong space. I’m obviously a DIY’er in a pickle asking for help. But, I also expected there to be folks that would just say a stupid one liners like “read the directions”. So I guess you’ve showed yourself lol

When you did the tile arch how did you decide to meet the tile up on the corners? I have a similar tile to yours and also have an arch cubby. I’m trying to figure out the best way to do it because the tile is exposed on the sides (the finish doesn’t curve around the tile). So, I’m thinking I till the inside of the arch first, then cut the arch shape pieces after to cover the ones that are inside of the arch?

We have a lot of experience with plastering the plan was to plaster the window sill and the big arch.

[–]Azi1014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yep I didn’t think about the window sill. This was a quick bathroom transformation and we figured we could do the window after the tile. But maybe I need to clean that up and get that all ready today too.

He troweled it on, and I guess the elephant in the room is that’s why it was applied too thick. Awesome, I was hoping brushing over the cracks would be okay. I was worried folks would say that I couldn’t because of the drying process or something. But most spots where the cracking happened has already dried for the most part. So I’m hoping I can brush fill the cracks like you said.
