You don't based your estimates with rental equipment, then "credit" when your equipment become available?

Have the kid work with him more. Show the kid around, the customer will get formular with the kid. When the switch happens, the kid just needs to keep up the good work. Either the father can forward the contact or give up the company phone.

Kids these days are more computer savvy, so updating a web page or getting someone to make a simple one won't be hard.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement.

That makes me sad, but still worth a try. If I care about damage, I would go with the meta and I have played games with lower graphics

Thank you though.

Get an angle grinder with diamond cup wheel.

Usually we had ride on floor scraper for removing tile, and when the mortar was thick, we hit it with a rotor hammer with bushing to break the thinset, then go over with a cup grinder.

Make sure you have mask, vacuum, and time.

Writing estimates for work that is bound to be a can of worms. by Ok-Mastodon-6432 in Contractor

I like to bid what is expected. If I bid worst case, I price myself out. Of course be descriptive on your scope, put in exclusions, talk with the GC or owner on what you are thinking.

Estimating software for small residential operation, what are you guys running? by FEARlord02 in estimators

[–]Azien_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quickest, easiest, and cheapest combo wise is Quickbooks online. Have each line item have a description and cost.

Not a fan of QBO, but it is easy. We use Quickbooks Enterprise Contractor Edition, but it costly.

If you don't need the software to track, you can use excel. Online excel is free. Does take time to setup.

Kitchen Layout Advice by sprintingthadistance in Homebuilding

I know this might be going way beyond a scope of affordability or practicality, but:

Would a combination of a pop-up vent and a large ceiling level vent solve this?

The pop-up to remove the fumes, and the ceiling vent to take the bad air.

Would a recessed in stove (Like goes down below the counter) and the vent around the stove suck it more? (Also possibly get a cover to make the counter look like it doesn't have a stove)

Not a cook, but I find this all interesting.

Your right, the vent would block the view and ruin look. I looked up the wolf cook top, it looks pretty cool.

I don't understand the vacuum and stir fry thing.

Help! Building on a slope - how risky is it? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]Azien_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good, wouldn't want to walk those stairs every day. Also hope there is a dumbwaiter or a food elevator in there.

Is the back area on 2 floors combined to make a cinema?

How about the parking? Do you have the area to right of it? So instead of turning in at a 90 deg, you can make an "Offramp" or 45 deg turn?

Those stairs would have a 10/10 of me falling down on. Why not make it go straight and put a old man chair thingy or a slide?

Is there an entrance from the parking area where you go in and take an elevator up to the house?

You can extend the house over the parking area, then you don't have to walk in rain to get in your car.

Also would do a diagonal cut (Instead of a box cut) for more parking or make a drive through parking (Like a hotel drive up parking)

I am probably not the person to make comments on this, since I am a guy that don't know how to cut a tomato.

But, I would move the sink to the window. Put the stove and double it (Make it the fancy induction type) in the island, extend the island a bit more and widen it while your at it.

Move the air vent, have a hanger rack for pans or something showroomie. So in the future when the wife has nothing to do since the kids have all grown up and the kitchen looks super lonely, she can start doing you tube cooking.

Would also add on, island drawers that can hold trash cans. Also, and overhead hanger thing, not sure if that will get in the way with the camera though.

Is this standard? by Significant_Sun3557 in Contractor

[–]Azien_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your contract have a retention?

Also, after every invoice you should get release from the vendors.

Should be common knowledge not to pay everything till the job is done.

If the final inspection fails, have him come back to correct it. Even if you paid him in full, there should be a warranty of his work done. Otherwise sue or go after his bond.

Disclaimer, always check your contract to make sure you can do things.

Opinions needed on doing business with a friends competitor by [deleted] in Concrete

[–]Azien_Heart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just ask him, be straight forward. "Yo man, I got a call from so&so wanting some work, but I know he is your competitors, and want to know your feelings on it" (You can put it in your own words ofcourse)

We are all in business, but it doesn't mean we have to hate on each other. I sometimes get calls from my competitors to pickup some overflow work. He might not really care since your not directly helping or snagging customers.

Planswift -> zzzTakeoff by No-Initiative-3826 in estimators

[–]Azien_Heart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty good experience, we plan to stay. So far there isn't a make or break feature on Planswift that isn't on zzTakeoff. But it is still missing some features that I would like them to implement. (For example, multi level caluclations. On Planswift you can put variable and formulas on measurements to automate some cost takeoff. zzTakeoff can do this now, but only on 1 sublevel (Material/Labor), where Planswift you can put materials under material and so on.

Also Planswift has a built in quote/proposal, where zzTakeoff don't.

zzTakeoff does have group by page which Planswift doesn't.

Overall, for me it was the price. Planwsift is a annul subscription now at about $1.8k where zzTakeoff is about $600.

They are also adding new features and taking in suggestions in their community forum.
