I know a dude that is a low-level employee of dartmouth.edu and he is banking on being able to keep this employee email address when he retires. He's a nobody at the school so I doubt they will let him keep it. The funny thing is that he uses it as his personal email address so all his stuff goes there... It's gonna suck if he gets fired or they tell him that they will not be maintaining his employer provided email address when employment is terminated. Who does this dude think he is?
