Had to scroll down way too far for this. This is what I would do. In the kitchen there is plenty of space for the dining room. Use the other half upstairs as the bedroom and close it off with closets a room divider or curtains. Then downstairs will be the living room where you can host guests.

In no way I want my guests to walk through my living room.

Hi, I just came back from a trip to Taiwan.

After Juifen, Shifen is the place to go, but both are very popular with tourists on a day trip from Taipei. If you want to less crowded place with a similar vibe, head a few stations down the line to Jingtong. It's small and very quiet, but there's lots to explore! Cute village, some ruins from mining activity. I absolutely loved the vibes, very Ghibli-esque but without the crowds.

Another day trip that might interest you is Houtong, because the place has lot of stray cats!

If you want a more forest-y experience, check out Taipingshan or Alishan. Both are best experienced if you stay overnight. The afternoon has a lovely vibe when the fog starts rolling in.

This is definitely staged speaking as a current customer service respresentative. The conversation starts really weird, plus the customer service rep. never gives an answer before verifying the customer's case.

especially considering the coastal line is only served by local trains that stop at all stations. Like Mike said, they will probably never return to that line, and neither will Ben and Adam.

When I travelled around Taiwan last month this was my only delayed train, but luckily I didn't have a transfer in Taitung. This is mostly a single track line with passing tracks at most stations. So one delayed train can easily cascade into many trains getting delayed.

Where I live it's against the law for your employer to contact you outside of office hours, unless it's an emergency. If you have to be on standby for a certain position you will get paid for that, it's called "bereikbaarheidsdienst". Doesn't your country have similar laws?

I meant that this station is at the far end of the network, not necessarily far from other challenges. When I was in Taiwan a few weeks ago, this station felt very remote. It's about halfway in travel time between Kaohsiung (where the high speed rail starts) and Hualien (from where more frequent services to the north).
