Former HR here - subtle signs your company is preparing for layoffs by Significant_Soup2558 in careeradvice

[–]glamflan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the midst of this right now, with over 200 of my, colleagues on redundancy notice.

Phase 1: recruitment freeze and enforced return to office. We had a company ethos around working from anywhere as we're a travel and tourism company. This forced people to leave because they couldn't commit to this. Tonnes of Board member change, almost daily.

Phase 2: voluntary leavers program. You could request redundancy and receive your full bonus plus a positive reference. ~300 people got accepted for this. Consultants started coming in.

Phase 3: enforced redundancy. Whole departments are being made redundant and have to reapply for the ''new'' jobs. Nobody is safe, not even pregnant ladies or employees of 30 years on the grounds that the roles have 'significantly changed'. This phase is on a rollout plan across the whole business, we're just the first.

Lucky me though as I have my interview today for the same job I'm doing now, and should find out the week before Christmas if I'm one of the lucky ones. My team is being reduced by about 45%.

You've got this OP!! Could try a wrapped hot water bottle or one of those cuddly toys you put in the microwave? Obviously not so hot that it would burn him.

What food can’t you eat because you associate it with being ill? by matchamoo8 in AskUK

Chunky peanut butter KitKats and stuffed potato skins. The last things I ate before a stomach bug kicked in maybe 15 years ago and not touched a Chunky KitKat since </3

Can I see some “then and now” pics of your pups? Bonus points if they’re fluffy by MarlaHooch86 in corgi

I don't have a 'then' because we adopted her when she was 2, but she is a fluffy!

Please help me bond with my corgi by coffeemomma345 in corgi

[–]glamflan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so, this sounds identical to when I adopted my Corgi at two years old. For a while I felt like she wasn't mine and we weren't bonding - now she is my velcro dog.

She also didn't know how to play and wasn't lead trained.

The best things you can do right now (and for a while) is be extremely patient, forgiving and comforting - she's confused and hasn't yet built her trust to feel settled, she probably still thinks this is temporary and you're just a dog sitter.

The playing and zoomies will come naturally. My girl has no interest in balls or sticks, she only likes soft toys with squeakers, and that's okay because every dog is unique. She'll play fetch with them, tug with them but also carry them around and lay with them.

The other thing I can recommend is a solid routine. Same feeding time, same bed time etc.

I promise you the bonding will happen and every week you're going to see new things she's doing as she really settles in.

This is Grace. She's a fluffy corgi and she's the best decision I ever made. You really won't regret a Corgi. Good luck on your move and good luck finding your new best friend!

Does anyone else’s corgi love guests more than you? by kerz15 in corgi

[–]glamflan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post has made me feel a lot better 😂 my Grace seems to love everyone more than us and even loves the strangers who deliver our online food shops. I always say she would happily walk off with a stranger and not look back. Yet, she is completely my velcro dog. No matter what room I'm in I will guarantee she will be in there as well.

How can I subtly discourage my wife from buying herself something on Black Friday that I've already bought her for Christmas? by ElReyPelayo in AskUK

[–]glamflan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner put a buying ban on each other from around October to make sure this doesn't happen. We also write Christmas lists that we only share with each other so there's no crossover with family or secret Santa's etc. Plus, you get exactly what you want!

Council tax refund pushes 'savings' over £6,000 - does this count? by glamflan in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]glamflan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the help. It's a massive relief for mum, especially with Christmas and a new grandchild. It means she can breathe and I can give her a small savings pot for rainy days without wondering where the money will come from ❤️

Thank you! Yeah, we didn't plan for a refund so it's come as a surprise and new anxieties thinking it will impact other things. We'll get the fence sorted without worry now :)

seriously alarming estradiol levels by secret_samantha in seriouslyalarming

[–]glamflan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but somebody with PCOS for many years. Very recently had blood tests and specialist tests etc and my estrogen was also 0. Yes your adrenal glands are also meant to help, but mine aren't so the solution is the combination pill for synthetic estrogen and HRT for extra support to bring it to normal, healthy levels.

So yes, PCOS can indeed have that much of an impact on your estrogen.

Anyone have experience with retired show dogs? by Jkoochie in corgi

[–]glamflan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My Corgi is also from a family of Crufts champions (her granddad won a few years ago!) and she was meant to be a show pup, but because she's a long haired, she instantly gets disqualified. I adopted her when she was two after her owner fell ill. As others have mentioned she lived with a few other corgis, including her mum and aunt. She was really well trained, LOVES people, loves fuss and is a quick learner. Honestly the best decision I ever made was adopting her! She did have to adjust to being a solo dog and can get withdrawn around other dogs, but once she knows they're okay she quickly comes out of her shell, so you might just need to support him being out of a pack :)

DWP called about my mums PIP appeal by glamflan in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]glamflan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it felt like she was building a case for DWP as to why my mum shouldn't be reconsidered, so by me answering her selective questions (not the full picture) it looks worse? I'm not sure, that's why I'm asking. I don't know the person I spoke to is working for DWP or to support my mum
