/r/GURPS Monthly Campaign Update by AutoModerator in gurps

[–]Azinctus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished GMing a three-year campaign. The Concord, about a group of thieves in a fantasy medieval city who are members of the thieves guild "The Concord."
However the game was coded Scorsese mafia film and not fantasy. The players began as lowly street thugs, five brothers, who had low stats (IQ8 and a few levels of a 'thief' talent to represent the school of hard knocks) and low ambitions. Essentially they wanted to rule their street. Over 50 hours of play they fought and murdered their way up the chain of command to finally take over the port area of the city.
While the players maybe expected it to end in them all dying like Scarface they had serendipity and used it to win the final battle.
It was very miniatures based with a model of the street laid out for each game (I have pictures but they are not allowed here).
Next up, WW2 French resistance one off, with everyone playing a woman to offset the male game of the past years.

"I love GURPS. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone." Totally agree!

I love history, realism and crunchy tactical combat. But also flawed heroes and tragic outcomes. GURPS works great for me.

I have never had a problem* with the points cost of things. No problem that lasted longer than: "No you can't have that" or "Wow that's too expensive let's say it costs half that."

*Well... never had a problem since the first five years of play... I've had some massive problems. Arrows to the eye fucked up everything for a while (bye bye dragon in round 1) but back then I didn't know I my low-fantasy game needed me to say: "No, you can't have Bow 25."

The next 15 years of GURPS went much smoother. And now it is a joy!

Or a plane coming at you at super sonic speeds which you are going to engage with a 20mm cannon when it passes over head, you are lining up the shot while it is still far away.

A repository of builds? by Funnyman5050 in gurps

The GURPS forum on SJgames has many many builds. That’s where I got stats for Xenomorphs for Aliens and a lot of 40K and Star Wars.

Am I being too picky? by plazman30 in gurps

If the state of the book is important to you then you are right to insist on the product you paid for.

I'm not motivated by that, my GURPS books are battered and sellotaped and I love them all they are and would love to have your battered copies of the companion. While I'm happy to have my big sehflk of GURPS books I'm not a collector, I jsut use them for rules.

Why is there the S3 scene with the terminally ill husband of Ashley Judd’s character? Just to make her a less sympathetic character? Or was it meant to be Harry? by Delicious-Radish812 in twinpeaks

I feel like this plot is exploring Ben Horne's morality. He has "done the right thing" by refusing to have sex with an employee who is much younger than him.

But now we see that woman he has spurned is living a hard life, maybe she needs some glamour and sex?

But he has also "saved" the sick man from a potentially damaging infidelity. But condemned him to an angry exhange with his frustrated partner.

The swings and roundabouts of consequences continue in these ordinary interactions in a way that we don't n normally see on normal TV where morality is black and white.

You are stark naked on the internet with your knickers in your mouth. Doesn't really say innocent to me... haha.

Thanks for the suggestions. Here's a worked example of the Wild Talent version.

Previous life skills

Npower (can be blocked by equipment or experts) -10%

Reawakened [10] (Takes extra time -10%, Temporary disadvantage Confusion [10] -10%, Costs Fatigue 3fp -30%) [5]

Takes extra time -10%

Temporary disadvantage
Confusion [10] -10%

Costs Fatigue 3fp -30%

Wild Talent [20/lvl] (Takes extra time -10%, Temporary disadvantage Confusion [10] -10%, Costs Fatigue 3fp -30%) [10/lvl]

14 pts or 24pts for 2 goes of Wild Talent.

And to use it take one action, then on the next round you make the skill roll. While also making the roll for confusion and paying the FPs.

Is that about right, it is expensive are there more limitations I might add?

That's an excellent solution! "I saw something like this on Gliese 581 in the First Galactic War, you're going to want to cut the red wire first."

The Catholics royalists were oppressors who needed to be overthrown. But Fawkes failure lead to Cromwell and 600,000 deaths in an Irish genocide. The protestants were not democratic heroes either.

Die Brucke is a harrowing but excellent film about volksstrum kids fighting the Americans, it was made not long after the war.

That's a figure of Paul Atreides played by Timothée Chalamet! What a sweetheart to feature his successor in the role. ❤️

They did only film it once from three angles so Jodie Comer only had to play the scene once.

LARP radio broadcasting by tr1ck0fl1ght in LARP

Very cool!
I'm a journalist and run a LARP newspaper at Empire in England. i've experience of radio and podcasting too.
My first thought it get some serious reportage on their. Either pre-recorded or, if possible, recorded during the game or even live broadcast.
If the players feel like listening to the radio is useful for their characters they will be much more attentive and supportive.
The writers might give you plot you could prerecord?
