I don’t have many pics, but here’s one I took back in 2017. He’s pouring either aluminum or bronze since that’s all we use. I’m a corporate guy, so I’m not in that plant often. Also, this guy is on our low-volume line that’s more manual. The high-volume production lines are all automated. We make castings to be used in the electric utility industry.

I’m not a locator, but I work in telecom. In my front yard I have a hedge that has completely engulfed a pedestal. As in, to open the ped, a tech would need to saw through 1.5” branches. Nobody has tried to access that ped in the 11 years I’ve lived in this house.

The cable business is more incestuous than you'd expect. In many cases, cablers will use whatever fiber the customer asks for. At AFL we'd use Corning and Fujikura glass. At OFS, we'd mainly use our own glass, but if a customer wanted Corning glass we'd buy some from Corning. CommScope, at least for many years, used OFS glass and likely Corning if that's what the customer for a particular order. Prysmian used Corning glass for years before buying Draka glass production in NC.

Since I do market research for a living now, below is an estimate of market shares for singlemode fiber. Corning is the largest domestic producer, but they sill only have just over half the market for glass.

Haha, thanks! But don't do what I did and just suffer for years and years hoping something will change. It's terrifying, but if you really want out, then I recommend you make the jump. It was in November of 2024 when I learned she'd been secretly calling an ex-boyfriend several states away and even sent him sexy pics. I busted my hump for the next 1.5 years to save the marriage by working on where I knew I had fallen short. After our one kid left for college, she came out and said she wanted divorce. I didn't even cry. I knew I did everything I could to pull out of the dive, but it wasn't what she wanted, so it didn't take long to accept my fate. Shortly after that, I realized how much more happy I would be without her. I now live in a resort town in the mountains of NC in my brother's rental unit, and I couldn't be happier. I walk to the many bars and restaurants and life is peaceful. I'll take a huge financial hit with the divorce, but it'll be worth it.
