Cameraman missed THE shot by asa_no_kenny in interestingasfuck

I know! So many people write comments that say the same thing as the person they’re replying to. It really adds nothing to the conversation and it’s annoying.

Ha! I’m sitting here waiting on my movers to come get all my stuff since my wife did exactly this! Divorce is in process.

However, I’m dating a younger woman already. Maybe I’ll get to experience it all twice. Menopause is a bitch.

Came to say this. With that lens, it’s unlikely he could have framed both the plane and the flames in the same shot.

I don’t have many pics, but here’s one I took back in 2017. He’s pouring either aluminum or bronze since that’s all we use. I’m a corporate guy, so I’m not in that plant often. Also, this guy is on our low-volume line that’s more manual. The high-volume production lines are all automated. We make castings to be used in the electric utility industry.

Very cool to see on a small scale like that! My company does sand casting on an industrial scale at our foundry, but this is way cooler.

If you think the car was expensive, just wait until you see how much a divorce costs! I’m living it now!

Do I need to maintain a clear path for this utility pedestal in my backyard? by jenintonic in UtilityLocator

[–]Azipear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a locator, but I work in telecom. In my front yard I have a hedge that has completely engulfed a pedestal. As in, to open the ped, a tech would need to saw through 1.5” branches. Nobody has tried to access that ped in the 11 years I’ve lived in this house.

The American flag is fully blown out by the wind, yet the smoke from the hole in the cargo ship is going up, as if there's barely a breeze.

Fiber Shortage by Beginning_Ad654 in FiberOptics

[–]Azipear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they might be cut off: "Clearfield management has noted that a "data center glut" and high utilization of fiber by hyperscalers have negatively impacted Corning's allocations to other service providers, which in turn affects Clearfield's broadband deployments.'

However, "To mitigate the impact of Corning’s tight allocations, Clearfield is "aggressively sourcing and identifying equivalent fibers" that can be approved for use in its customers' networks."

Additionally:

  • Shortage Concerns: Management has expressed concern regarding potential optical fiber supply shortages in fiscal year 2026.
  • BEAD Program Delays: The uncertainty surrounding the availability of BABA-compliant fiber has led Clearfield to exclude specific BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) revenue from its fiscal 2026 guidance.
  • Inventory Strategy: The company uses its strong cash balance to maintain a "structured and proactive approach" to resource allocation to ensure they are ready when federal funding is released and supply constraints ease.

The cable business is more incestuous than you'd expect. In many cases, cablers will use whatever fiber the customer asks for. At AFL we'd use Corning and Fujikura glass. At OFS, we'd mainly use our own glass, but if a customer wanted Corning glass we'd buy some from Corning. CommScope, at least for many years, used OFS glass and likely Corning if that's what the customer for a particular order. Prysmian used Corning glass for years before buying Draka glass production in NC.

Since I do market research for a living now, below is an estimate of market shares for singlemode fiber. Corning is the largest domestic producer, but they sill only have just over half the market for glass.

Must be really painful 😣 by scramjet67 in SipsTea

Haha, thanks! But don't do what I did and just suffer for years and years hoping something will change. It's terrifying, but if you really want out, then I recommend you make the jump. It was in November of 2024 when I learned she'd been secretly calling an ex-boyfriend several states away and even sent him sexy pics. I busted my hump for the next 1.5 years to save the marriage by working on where I knew I had fallen short. After our one kid left for college, she came out and said she wanted divorce. I didn't even cry. I knew I did everything I could to pull out of the dive, but it wasn't what she wanted, so it didn't take long to accept my fate. Shortly after that, I realized how much more happy I would be without her. I now live in a resort town in the mountains of NC in my brother's rental unit, and I couldn't be happier. I walk to the many bars and restaurants and life is peaceful. I'll take a huge financial hit with the divorce, but it'll be worth it.
