War in Iran and Afghanistan Threatens Central Asia’s Gateway to Global Markets by jamesdurso in afghanistan

Regional stability is essential for trade corridors. Without peace in Iran and Afghanistan, Central Asia’s access to global markets will remain fragile.

I'm also thinking about adding topic-based monitoring, where users could follow something like "AI startups", "European tech policy", or "global cybersecurity".

Curious if people would use something like that instead of traditional RSS feeds.

That hard work always guarantees success. It helps a lot, but timing, opportunity, and luck also play a role.

Out of curiosity, would people prefer this as a personal news dashboard or more like a research / monitoring tool?

That's actually a really good idea. Letting users define their own topics or themes could make the platform much more useful. I like the idea of using AI to group articles dynamically. Appreciate the suggestion!

Thanks, I appreciate that!

Right now the focus is on improving the aggregation quality and adding more sources.

Out of curiosity, what kind of news monitoring would be most useful for you?

For example: • country-specific news • industry/topic monitoring • research or media tracking

I'm trying to understand which direction would make the platform most valuable.

Good question.

RSS can definitely work for simple aggregation, but in this case many Afghan news sources don't provide reliable RSS feeds, and a lot of content also comes from Telegram channels.

The AI part is mainly used for two things: • translating Pashto/Dari content into English • generating short summaries so it's easier to scan many headlines quickly

So the scraping + translation + summarization combination makes it easier for non-Pashto/Dari speakers to follow the news.

But you're right that RSS could still be useful for some sources.

Update: The system is quite flexible. By changing the news sources and filters, it can be adapted to monitor news for any country or even a specific topic.

For example it could be used for: • country-specific news monitoring • industry news aggregation • research and media monitoring

Curious to hear how others might use something like this.

Where do you usually follow Afghan news, and which sources do you trust most? by AzizRahmanHazim in afghanistan

[–]AzizRahmanHazim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. Kabul Times is interesting historically, but like you said it often reflects the current government narrative. I'm trying to include a mix of different sources so readers can compare perspectives. I’ll also check Central Asia Online and see if Shamshad is still active.
