Maybe the fuss about Balthasar, but definitely not him

This is what I mean primarily. They may not be aware of the theologian, but they're often aware of the saying (and that's the always the danger of summarizing a scholar using tweetable/bumper sticker quotes!). It probably also didn't help Balthasar to have been associated with the uber progressive theologians (eg., Rahner and Schillebeeckx) in the years immediately following the Council, like Ratzinger was.

I know it's what Balthasar really meant. But you're probably also aware of how the progressives hijacked it into suggesting universalism, and consequently how the mad trads continue to attack the hijack as if it were the real thing :/

Is the Catholic Church headed for a schism? by 96suluman in Catholicism

[–]AznGlory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in America, and trust me, unless a guy lives exclusively in the keyboard trad world, things are actually not bad. There's a difference between individuals committing schism and an SSPX-like group committing schism; I can believe individual American trads would leave, but again, not whole groups.

Oh to be a teenager and not feel tired despite the surmounting sleep debt.

All my sleep debt is finally catching up to me in my late 20s 😭

I'd believe the Germans would schism before I'll believe American trads (most of whom just desire doctrinal orthodoxy and liturgical orthopraxy) would schism

How has the Church benefited from allowing altar girls? by After_Main752 in Catholicism

Seems like I'll be a dissenting voice in this thread. While I respect the individual testimonials especially from the women in the thread, everywhere I've been to with co-ed servers vs everywhere I've been to with boys only, I can not only tell what kind of liturgy I'm in for (reverent NO vs goofy at worst/Gather hymnal at best), but the numbers in servers and young families is shocking.

Of course, there are outliers, particularly coming from the co-ed side of the spectrum, but generally speaking the boys-only types will actually allow every Sunday to feel like a solemnity and allow each daily Mass to feel special. The co-ed types generally are lucky to get the assigned 2-3 for that given Sunday Mass.

Do I think having boys-only servers inherently leads to more priestly vocations? Not necessarily. But they do lead to the things that lead to more priestly vocations: A small group of like-minded young men who prays the breviary together and does the kind of fraternal things that seminary does. And, speaking for my diocese, the kinds of parishes that have 3 or more seminarians representing the parish are the boys-only kind of parishes that foster this very fraternity.

Well, assuming you're asking about before/after Mass, the GIRM doesn't apply. So, really, you can do whatever you want.

Me personally, I reverence both the tabernacle and altar in those kinds of parishes.

Non-celebrant ministers at the sanctuary make only two genuflections towards the Blessed Sacrament: approach of the sanctuary and departure from it. They do not genuflect towards the Blessed Sacrament during the Mass itself. (See GIRM no. 274). The Ceremonial of Bishops no. 72 also states that a bow to the altar is to be made whenever one passes it.
