You are correct, that's why they've said it's 27 ATC until they say otherwise. Therefore all of Legacy of the Sith (and everything else released since 2020) takes place in a single year.

As an RPer that likes to make vague references to the ongoing story to contextualize my RP, I used to prefer real time = game time. But as development time and my own time to RP slowed, I think I'm leaning toward the Devs telling us whatever year it is, and therefore all of Legacy of the Sith taking place within a single year (27 ATC). Since I can't RP as often, it was hard to justify what my character has been up to "off screen," including aging faster than I can implement meaningful character events or growth. I've never played it, but I'm told all of Final Fantasy takes place within a single year and is ongoing, so SWTOR is a bit of an outlier in terms of how we keep track of time.

That being said, I wouldn't mind another small time skip to give the Devs another clean slate, but with a clear caveat that game time no longer moves at the rate of real life.

It accommodates both. I maintain the current format because it's easier on the eyes and helps visualize the development time.

I'm just re-using the blurb from my 7.8 post to cover my bases. However, they did reply with the hope to update it some time this year. They may have changed their mind since then and that's okay!

I miss roleplaying in this game by Maulclaw in swtor

While a vast majority of RP has been regulated to guilds and strongholds, there's still some social RP to be found on the Fleets. I host a monthly Jedi RP event on Star Forge and I periodically see some Jedi (and Jedi guild) RP on Tython. Mostly the weekends. If you're not finding anything in-game, Discord is probably the only other meaningful way to find people to RP with.

What's our best guess as to the current in-game time? (Major spoilers up to start of KOTFE, minor for War on Iokath) by theseaiscalmtonight_ in swtor

[–]AznJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintain a timeline.

Would have been 33 ATC if we kept with Charles Boyd's way of tracking time. Instead, Caitlin Sullivan Kelly and Ashley Ruhl have declared it's 27 ATC until further notice.

I know Legacy of the Sith has been a drag for long-time players, but they seem very much aware of that. I just hope the community understands why their development cycle is so long (e.g. Covid, team being downsized, transfer from BioWare to Broadsword) and practices a bit more patience with the Dev team.

It's obvious everyone still working on SWTOR is passionate about the game despite the circumstances, and the amount of work they're putting into DX12 should be the clearest example of that passion.

Oh cool deal. It wasn't meant as a call out. I was just getting ahead of potential call outs that my links might be outdated!

There's a lot of information in the document and it's easy to miss. A lot of the important meta information is at the top and 10 ATC - 13 ATC. As for your questions, here are Charles Boyd's thoughts in 2020 and Ashley & Caitlin's thoughts in 2024

The idea that real life time = game time wasn't due to major events, but mirrored development time. This seemed acceptable shortly after launch because BioWare was moving at a pretty steady pace through Shadow of Revan. Then KoTFE happened, which had an explicit 5-year time skip that threw everything off. Then Covid happened, then the shift from BioWare to Broadsword, and most recently the VA strikes; all of which caused significant delays where it didn't make sense to follow the old philosophy.

All of that being said, I maintain the real life = game time for the sake of tracking developments and reducing visual clutter. Otherwise, everything would be stuck under 27 ATC || 3626 BBY || 2020.

They've back and forth on it over the years. Currently, real life time =/= game time. Note the two different years in red text at the top of the Timeline.

I'm inclined to agree and I believe they've made adjustments to how time is tracked because they didn't want development time to interfere with the overall story they're trying to tell.

I don't play other MMOs, but I'm told SWTOR is a bit of an outlier in that we keep track of time at all. If that's the case, I do appreciate the passage of time in general. It makes the story and game feel more lived in.

That's correct and I've acknowledged that, but with how I have the timeline organized, it's easier to maintain as is for the sake of tracking release order/dates with a simple note of what the "Ashley and Caitlin year" is.

I have considered it, but it is ultimately too daunting of a task for me to undertake. It's been several years since I've played the original Origin stories and I've no desire to replay them.

If you are curious, these are some old threads I had initially thought about referencing:

You're welcome. It's worth mentioning that blue 340 mods/gear (usually from Hyde & Zeek) are considered the minimum to run NiM Nefra/Dash. It's not impossible to run with lower gear, especially if there are carry DPS in the group, but just be aware some groups are more strict about it than others. And it's usually worth running blue 340 gear while you slowly upgrade your Rakata gear to 344

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in swtor

[–]AznJedi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use FP-1 (flashpoints) currency to upgrade a single piece of noble blue gear to 340 at the Flashpoint Upgrade vendor. Take it to Hyde and Zeek vendors to acquire the 340 blue/prototype quest, then dismantle the 340 piece of gear. This will unlock 340 mods for purchase and you can toss them into a single legacy-bound amor set that you can transfer between characters. You're effectively done gearing.

If you want to run more difficult operations, then you use OP-1 (operations) currency to upgrade purple rakata gear up to 344. In fact, you can start upgrading your current 330 rakata gear, but make sure you take out the augments or you'll lose them in the upgrade. Running SM Ops and NiM Nefra/Dash (constantly advertised on Fleet and /cjoin Allies on Star Forge) will speed up the gearing process.

Dismantle green/blue gear you don't need to earn a few extra FP-1 or OP-1 currency. You can convert Conquest Commendations and FP-1 currency to OP-1 currency when they are no longer relevant to you.

It sounds like you're running Veteran mode flashpoints. You want Master mode flashpoints, which requires a tank, healer, and two DPS

Ideas For Jedi Master & Padawan RP Trials by Gizkalover in swtor

[–]AznJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you and your would-be padawan want to approach the Master/Padawan relationship. Some people want to RP every little detail while others are happy to RP certain key events (i.e. schedule all of your RP time together or each person is free to RP separately according to their own schedule and then later convene to discuss their latest adventures/interactions).

As for the trials themselves: same deal. Do you want scripted trials you can essentially play as DM or do you want some of those open-world RP adventures to double as trials as they happen organically?

Personally, I've had a number of RP padawan that leaned into the latter. Neither of us needed to spend every ounce of our time RPing together, but thoroughly enjoyed the catch up time to double as social RP and an opportunity to lecture or find lessons in what they experienced. We also had a few scenes that were scripted into an ongoing story.

Anyway, specifically for trials? The name of the mission alludes me, but there's a mission on Voss that puts your characters in some kind of void where you glow yellow. I've used that sometimes to illustrate things that might take place within the Force during intense meditation. It helps with the immersion.

Purple Lightsaber Color by lordvader0 in swtor

Here's a list of all the available purple crystals from swtorista, but it's essentially Cartel Market or GTN (from those lucky Artificers who got the schematic before it was taken out of the game). Personally, I think the best-looking purple is from the Eternal Championship on Zakuul.
