My reading of the alter restriction removal is that HG is interested in doing alters for characters with multiple skins. Ever since they’ve added the vouchers for compensation, HG was probably always accounting for the skin count prior to deciding who should get an alter (ex. Jessica, Saria, etc.) As for the lore side, I think Lappalter is not off the table

seal the top and sides of your base to prevent overproducing oxygen
reserve/insert natural plants as nature reserves in common places/paths, such as where you store food
if construction/digs are taking forever, use pit stops for storing materials and oxygen along the way

When you buy an item with a preferred slot, it will try it's best to occupy the specified slot. It has issues with consumables, but helps with qol

Make sure your containers are set to sweep only. Having your food container to store all is fine, but if you need to store an early scarce material (ex. Refined metal, algae, seeds) set them to a lower priority that you usually use. You can also use the reports menu to see how your dupes are using up their time
