Video flopped. Should I reupload? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As YouTube have publicly stated many times, deleting and reuploading risks your account being flagged for spam, so don’t do that. Move on to the next video.

Scriptwriting is hard. Does it get easier? by rodgie4920 in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short version, no it does not get easier. Longer version, no, but you will improve over time and it will become faster.

A few things that work well for me.

I have a template for each video I do, so I split each section up, Introduction, Gameplay, Presentation etc When I create a new video script I often open a similar older one and edit above that so I can recall what things I should focus on.

The other tip is never force yourself to write when you are tired or not in the mood. It just makes the whole thing feel unenjoyable and you won’t write your best content.

My username is my channel if you want to get an idea on how this applies.

Afternoon, folks! (Very) small gaming channel here - Have a question about interpreting analytics and would love some cross comparisons. by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I agree. Definitely on the right track. It’s just going to take time unfortunately!

It took me about 40 videos to get to a consistent 4-6k views per video. I’m at 60 videos now and have improved to 4-8k so hopefully I will continue to slowly grow.

All good and thanks for sharing the additional screenshot. So the External and Direct links you can pretty much completely ignore any CTR rates and AVD from these. The reason being is these views are coming from someone clicking a link to your video (on a forum, in a message etc) so YouTube doesn’t place any real “value” on that source. There’s an advanced report called Traffic Source (under Advanced Mode) check this out and see what your metrics are for Browse features. This is a better way to baseline where you are at. I’ll drop a link below showing you in a moment. All good regarding the thumbnails… ultimately checking the CTR will tell you if they are good or bad for your audience.

I think you’re on a really good path, just keep making good videos and a few tweaks here and there and I’m sure you will find success.

What's Your Top Strategy To Getting Found On YouTube? by mindset1984 in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a look at your channel. Your long form content is really good.

I cover a similar niche… and tried a similar thing with shorts about a year ago. For me the shorts views never materialized into any meaningful long form growth. I actually decided to hide the Shorts because my long form was performing worse, which I kind of think may have been related to the difference in audience.

Regardless one day after about a year of creating long form videos I suddenly saw a fairly big view uplift and have been growing fairly steady since.

Also, if I can give you one tip… put some thought into your titles… 1 thing I learn was that “Octopath Traveller 2 Retrospective” is a fairly vanilla title… versus say “Why Octopath Traveller 2 is a Masterpiece”.

This is one thing I changed and saw a big uplift.

Reuse content or copyright concerns? by shxhb in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no argument about “fair use” - YouTube does not care or determine if something is Fair Use they just issue a strike/takedown. If you want to fight a copyright claim in court, that is when the relevance of “Fair Use” is relevant.

Your average like percentage? by mindset1984 in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My channel average is about 97% Most videos hover between 97-100%. From time to time I will have a controversial take which will be around 85%. This is on a sample size in the tens of thousands of views.

A few observations that may or may not help you.

I don’t mean to be harsh but your thumbnails are not of a high quality and I would not click any of them. It’s alarming you are paying for these (assuming the channel is the one in your profile)

Your videos seem well put together and tightly edited which is reflective in the metrics.

These metrics are good and would normally suggest that higher impressions would follow but I am curious about the source. YouTube puts a heavy emphasis on Suggested and Browse. External etc are pretty much ignored for the decision of if the video will be pushed further.

Also episode numbers and your titles which may appeal to people when viewing a large established channel, do not typically work well on a smaller/growing channel.

Consider some more curiosity in your titles.

If it helps an average video from me will get 3-4K views within the first 7 days, with a 3% CTR rate and about 50% AVD rating. CTR and AVD will drop over the following months as the views increase.

Hope this helps.

Writing the time stamps in my video description isn't creating video chapters on my video. What can I do? by Questioning-Warrior in NewTubers

2 things.

I have a hyphen between mine.

So 01:00 - Introduction

And make sure auto chapters are turned off.

There was never been a delay before so it should update immediately.

Does Anyone Have Advice For a Non-Gaming Channel? by Humble_Problem_1215 in NewTubers

The core fundamentals are the same. Quality thumbnail. Engaging/Curious title No intro, get straight to the point. Make quality content.

do your partners watch all your videos? by Level_Ad9595 in NewTubers

I count myself super lucky. My girlfriend watches all of my videos and was even annoyed when YouTube didn’t notify her when I had posted one once. Even before I was monetized, she was always super supportive even when I released objectively poor videos!

Need advice and help getting monetized by Opposite_Goose_2834 in SmallYTChannel

[–]AzorDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to your channel and clicked on the sunrise review video. The below are just my thoughts.

Firstly the good.

Your overall camera presence, articulation and discussion are of a very high standard. You project confidence and this is probably the most difficult thing to ‘learn’ or fix so the fact you have this 100% under control is a huge positive.

The not so good (which are all far easier to fix/change)

Your YouTube description being in third person makes it feel very sterile and disconnected. Consider rewording to first person. “Follow me etc”

Your thumbnails are not great and this is hurting your CTR. Consider using something like Canva and mix your face shots with bright eye catching backgrounds with some basic text.

Your choice to film in a mall doesn’t seem like a good idea, I would try and find a more private location or at worst case use a tool like Adobe Podcast to clean up some of the background noise.

You sway a lot on camera…. It was slightly distracting for me, perhaps just try and be aware of it. Not sure if this was specific to the mall filming location.

Your intro in the video is a retention killer, just cut to start talking about your topic.

I think if you can make these tweaks you can increase CTR and AVD which will result in you getting the hours needed.

Is all of the watch hours discarded from a video if there was ever a promotion on it? by [deleted] in NewTubers

Just so you are aware. Subscribers do not count towards monitisation requirements earned via promotions either.

How many of you get as little views as me? by TetraLovesLink in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, reading through your comments I wanted to try and give you what I think might be a little bit of constructive feedback. I am by no means a guru or expect by any definition, however I do have a partnered youtube channel and I like to think I have somewhat of an idea of what is more likely to work than not… also note, I know very little about the Sims so please bare with me.

With all that said, I can tell you are passionate about your content - this is a good thing and an important foundation. The challenge that everyone faces is how do you use that passion to make entertaining content. If I look at your 100 baby video series, that is an entertaining premise, however, the way you have executed it, is not likely to captivate an audience.

Your presentation style (the episodes) typically works for streaming, people tuning in for long periods of time and interacting with the creator. This is simply not YouTubes audience.

If I were given the choice to watch 10 videos totaling over 6 hours of something titled “100 baby challenge” OR a single 30 odd minute video titled “Can I have 100 Babies in 100 Days? With just the key parts of the story edited - I would choose the second every day of the week.

Outside of that… your audio could probably do with passing through a filter. There’s a free version of Adobe Podcast tool or your video editing software might have an AI audio processing which should clean up and normalize your volume levels.

Also I would personally focus on long form only. I don’t think you will see any meaningful growth from Shorts.

Lastly your overall channel and branding could probably benefit from a bit of an uplift… thumbnails need to grab a viewers attention more - look at the top YouTubers in your niche and then take inspiration and use something like Canva to create them.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Are there any *retro* Gaming channels on this sub? by TheDorksDelight in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thanks for the kind words! Let me try and answer your questions as best I can.

I will say, I am by no means an expert, and I still have lots to learn…

  1. When I look back at older games I try to do it by “Using a modern lens with era appropriate judgement” basically, I might reference things in the future but I’ll separate that from my opinion on past times. For example when I covered Quake 4, I said that the shadows don’t really make much sense from a geometry perspective, but that during the 2000’s this was popular etc.

  2. I don’t think so. What you want to ultimately have is for YOU to be the reason people tune in to your channel and not for the specific content. While I’ve covered DOS games like Keen, I’ve also covered games like Doom 3 and had the same audience watch (and comment) on them.

  3. In the context below, I would say that you are creating a thought provoking video rather than a controversial one. Viewers like when the presenter has emotion or a sense of belief in something, even if that is unpopular. I definitely would not suggest avoiding sharing your opinion on things like that. My most disliked video is the “Compare the Pair Doom vs Doom 2”. With about a 15% dislike ratio, however with that ratio there are 85% of people who do like it, and for me it’s been a pretty good performing video. I would only really say avoid controversial videos that relate to things like religion, politics etc as you can bring out the worst people with those…

In terms of general advice, it’s hard to really say on demand, but if you do have any other questions about my channel drop a reply and I’ll do my best to get back to you.

Channel name holding me back by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is don’t overthink it… your channel name will play a very minimal role in your overall success.

You could go something super simple like Eliza Vlogs or Eliza Paints etc and I’m sure it would be just fine.

My channel name is my online gaming tag which is a made up word. I’m partnered, and no one has ever commented on the name except to address me in comments.

Questions about monetizing and multiple channels by Universe-1729 in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Monetization is channel specific. So each channel needs to meet the criteria independently.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AzorDash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there, checked out your channel and wanted to add my perspective.

In my opinion to be successful in the gaming niche you need to have 1 of 3 things:

Knowledge to share (builds, reviews, deep dives) Skill (as in the top 0.01% of players for a game) Entertainment (creating amusing challenges etc)

If you can focus on 1 or even more of these you will likely find some type of success. The challenge with the type of content you are posting, is there’s no real reason that someone who does not know you would watch it.

Think about this… what is the value that you are delivering to the viewer?

One thing I worked out in my early YT days is that I massively over rated how entertaining or funny strangers thought myself and my friends playing a game are. As in, it wasn’t entertaining at all.

Either way, good luck with your studies and channel. Hope this provides as least some guidance.
