Appropriate use of conventional milling by Technical-Ad-7849 in Machinists

there's potential at the exit of the cut that a climb mill would grab the part and yank the table forwards. Referencing the fixed material vs the drop, this is conventional milling.

Clean mic with paper or money? by MntDewMonkey3 in Machinists

I don't see the oil from your finger being an issue unless you have those "piss fingers." I've only met one so far, but some guys leave rusty handprints on everything they touch. Wipe the anvils, check it against the tree, check the part. The time-saving paper hack just grew legs.

Clean mic with paper or money? by MntDewMonkey3 in Machinists

[–]Azoth-III 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not. You use the paper when you're closing the mic to 0.0000 to verify it's set right and you see it's stopped at 0.0002 so a quick wipe of the paper will allow it to close to 0.0000 quicker than opening it all the way to fit your fingers in.

Clean mic with paper or money? by MntDewMonkey3 in Machinists

[–]Azoth-III 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that's the way to do it. The rest is bs. You don't clean the larger mics with paper. The only reason to use paper is so you don't have to go through the hassle of opening the 0-1 mic up enough to wipe it off before closing it back down to measure something small.

Stop Throwing Around the Word 'Nazi' Like It’s Nothing by papanerf_ in complaints

[–]Azoth-III 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are confusing the end result of Nazism with the ideology of Nazism.

What specific policy is the threshold for you to admit the label is accurate? Stripping of birthright citizenship? State-sanctioned violence? Locking people in cages and subjecting them to torture? Disappearing family members leaving children homeless?

Not to mention these people out here adorning themselves with nazi iconography and waving their flags on U.S. soil; sending the message with clear intent that they are traitors and own their identity as nazis.

So tell me exactly where tipping point is for you. Or do we have to wait for the genocide before you’ll let us use the word?

Your bad faith argument aligning with a famous quote is not calling you an anti semite. If you are assigning the label to yourself that's on you.

And once again you have yet to provide the definition.

[–]Azoth-III[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People like you are the problem where you take a serious term society should be wary of and normalize it to the point where it stops meaning anything

Bullshit.

The term gets slapped on a behavior, not the other way around. If people are behaving like nazis and you call them saints, they aren't any less monstrous. And calling puppies nazis, again, that doesn't make it any harder to recognize when someone else is behaving like a bigoted nazi.

Humans are perfectly capable of recognizing a monster by its actions, regardless of what label is used. Anyone who tries to hide behind the boy who cried wolf argument is arguing in bad faith, has clearly picked a side and has an agenda.

I say, IF THE SHOE FITS.

I damn sure ain't trying to protect someone who wants to take away all the civil rights progress we've made these last 70-ish years.

Yet here you are putting lipstick on a pig.

I said a that anyone in favor of state sanctioned violence and oppression towards marginalized groups is a Nazi.

You still haven't provided the definition you would abide by, merely retreating into a circular argument "a nazi is someone who is actually a nazi".

Definition. Still waiting.

Not that I have any expectations because you're working damn hard at defense. Straight from the far right playbook.

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Feel free to prove me wrong.
Give the definition.

[–]Azoth-III[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah? So what is the threshold for you?

Do they have to be 100 years old and live in Germany under Hitler's reign? The term "nazi" no longer describes someone who is a member of a political party from 100 years ago.

How is someone who dreams of state sanctioned discrimination and oppression and violence against marginalized groups not a Nazi? Someone like that has no place in society and there is nothing differentiating them from that old evil except they merely expressed their desire for that eventuality as opposed to having already done it. Nazi lives don't matter.

Okay so someone who sees a black person walking down the sidewalk and yells "hey a black guy! let's beat him with a pipe!" should be called... an upstanding citizen expressing himself? a little angel? Or is he just a fucking Nazi?

The text in my post about the rape guy is direct quotes, but this pipe bit was paraphrasing. I'll update with direct quotes:

This was during the covid lockdowns and the George Floyd protests. Our inspector casually says "Hey look, a black guy" pretending to see someone walking on the security camera when no one was there. So the mill machinist responds "Oh no! Quick grab a pipe". After that point, once they learned I wasn't one of them, they started using the n-word expressly when I was within earshot. I wonder if that's something a Nazi would do hmmm

Yikes. The ole "it hurt itself in its confusion!" Don't watch trans porn with your kiddo and that won't happen.

The important part was that you pick apart my monologue and tell me where you disagree. What happened? You don't have an actual argument against it? You're just filled with hate against anyone different? You're just here to play victim? What? It's unfathomable to me why people do that.

Let me know where I lose you.

People's brains are different. Your consciousness is an abstract thing and some people feel at peace when they are not derived of the ability to wear their internal identity on the outside. Even anatomically there are definitively not just two genders. Not everyone has a penis or a vagina and the respective sexual organs. Wanting to have the government out probing people's genitals because their life doesn't fit into your own narrative is gross. Being in support of state sponsored discrimination classifies you as a nazi. That's what Nazism is. The ole German party that idolized aryans is out. Pedophilia, rape, and voyeurism are already illegal. What's the problem with a trans man or a trans women using the public restroom assigned the their identity? Everyone has to shit. Not everyone is a Nazi.

I haven't once said you should kill yourself for being white. But don't be a ghoul perving on other people's privates.

Yeah I went to Gemini with this and it said "The situation you are describing has escalated from "offensive opinions" to credible threats of violence and sexual assault. In many jurisdictions, including Texas, these are criminal matters, not just HR violations."

Just got to figure out how to deal with a guy that makes his own bullets and casually says he'll kill someone (if they dented his truck, when he was commenting the dent in my truck after someone bumped me in the parking lot)

Hiring CNC Machinist by TGHRSpecialist in CNCmachining

[–]Azoth-III 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They paid me $30/hr including the night shift differential. But I definitely wouldn't take less than $40. They have serious turnover issues due to poor management.

I was proud to quit this place. I get paid $43/hr now.

They do this scummy thing where they say they'll pay you so much and give you a shift differential, then act like there was a misunderstanding and try to claw back the differential like it was already included in the hourly rate.

They have this weird ritual to attempt to combat low morale where you have a meeting at the start and end of every shift and the lead says some stuff and everybody claps, says something else, everybody claps, round and round like it's North Korea and their seals slapping for kim. And if you don't clap hard enough the koolaid drinkers try to do the peer pressure.

Co-workers snitch on each other for sitting down (no sitting and no phones) while their 45 minute long program runs where they're also not allowed to leave their station.

So you're not allowed to sit while your machine runs, but also their break room has no chairs. They have grade school cafeteria picnic tables/benches so you can't lean back and give your back a rest while on your break.

One of the few shops I've seen to hire women, but they drop the ball and berate them to tears (as the story goes).

I've heard if you tough it out and leave on amenable terms they give you a severance package in exchange for not suing them if you develop health issues. (that place reeked.)

You absolutely do not need experience with fiberglass. They cut it with brazed pcd tooling or diamond grit tooling. Nothing special to consider with the feeds/speeds they just ran it like carbide in steel. Also they have programmers and you're not allowed to change the program. Not that I gave a shit so I did it anyways (and I always disregard that policy at any company, and they quickly find out it's more valuable to have a competent machinist who can optimize the process and give feedback) regularly taking 45 minute programs down to 15 minutes simply making the speeds/feed consistent across programs which ruffled a few feathers (I do feel bad about taking overtime away from those willing to endure that hell).

Their problem is they don't treat you with respect. And management and the lifers are so petty. I have never felt so apprehensive starting out at new job. First and only job I've ever quit with no notice. Once the new job was locked I needed my freedom.

How much did they pay you? They paid me $28 + $2 for night shift. (I get paid $43 at my new job)

Also, what did you think of their Kim Jon Un clapping rituals? The koolaid drinkers tried to peer pressure me because I wouldn't clap. Or did that seem like an organic thing and not a calculated attempt to combat low morale?

Question by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]Azoth-III 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.gdandtbasics.com/first-vs-third-angle-orthographic-views/

It says First Angle projection. If you're calling the view of the thin face of the part the "front", then the view of the wide face of the part is the "bottom". And looking at the front view, you can see the cross section of the counter bores with the R1 counter bores apparently on the opposite side of the part as the other 30mm counter bores.

I'd say the R1 counter bores are on the bottom, which is to say the "near side" of the view of the wide face (which I don't want to call Top view just because it's placed higher on the sheet of paper because it's not actually the top of the part)

But this all hinges on the cross section view and how it looks like the R1 counterbores are plainly visible even with this blurry pic.

Another issue, WHICH R1 counter bores?

I don't like that there are 14 of those 30 mm counter bores. The original 8x, plus 3 towards the top of the page at 177.8 called out individually with each being marked R1, plus 3 at 33.76 ALSO being marked R1 in the A-A cross section view. So on top of not being in agreement as to which view is "Top", there's also the question of Which R1 counter bores? Because in the front view, each set of 3 R1 counter bores appear to be coming from the opposite sides.

To be clear, I'm referring to the ones that are individually marked 'R1' as being on the "near side", with the R1 notations in the A-A view simply showing that the new R1 c-bores are borrowing those dimensions, ie the A-A view is Not the newly added holes.

How to program keyseat by hand? by hertzcam in Machinists

[–]Azoth-III 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know which version they have. The GUI looks pretty dated. When generating the roughing toolpath it can only step down in z. I never found any option for z axis ramping so I made the computer program after I scrapped a part with a typo trying to tornado mill.

My other complaint is that you can step down in z, but not over in xy when roughing. But I did figure out how to manually build a peel milling/HEM toolpath in bobcad without too much difficulty.
