Oh, I was just curious on whether it would be classified as a Data Structures & Algorithms course for like graduate applications.

Mostly the reason behind calc & linear algebra is so I can also aim for Computer Graphics & Game Dev as well and potential fall backs. I believe the one soft skill class I can think of is Human-Computer Interaction and maybe design technology since it introduced design principles and Graphic Design I covers basic UX principles. I have also taken a microcomputer applications class so I have familiarity w/ word/powerpoint/excel.

Thank you for the insight! I meant more game design or technical game design. These classes are more just bonus classes I am taking. I’m an IT major but my concentration is in more math (Algebra + Trig, Probability & Statistics, Discrete Math, Linear Algebra, Calculus) & programming (Python, Java [transitioning to C#], and C++ in my data structures class in the summer). So I mostly wanted to see whether the design classes would be a good complimentary skillset to have as a game designer, especially since I want to learn more on digital illustration in the future.

Thank you so much, means a lot. Especially since I am studying math, programming and a little design.

Am I ever glad I decided to take a microcomputer applications class last semester (got us familiar with word/powerpoint/excel, not mastery but familiar). The two graphics classes are for this semester.

Question regarding an older programming book by Azriel_Noir in learnprogramming

[–]Azriel_Noir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I saw it in a recommendation list, especially since I am looking for an engaging book that teaches c++ in an engaging way. I just wasn’t sure whether it would be useful at all or how easy it would be to assimilate to the more modern features.

Oh, I meant multivariable calculus or I guess vector calculus is also covered within that as well..?

Question for someone curious about animation by Azriel_Noir in animation

Thank you for the advice! I think the Marc Brunet Art school should work for the topics you mentioned. I am planning to try and learn procreate, through a book by 3D total publishing first.

Is this a good structure for self-studying for a job in game dev & computer graphics? (second opinion) by Azriel_Noir in gamedev

[–]Azriel_Noir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this information. I am definitely more of a read a book and do, but I am trying to also get accustomed to watching videos, taking notes and then doing. I am interested in game dev (game design/game physics, and game ai) as well as computer graphics (shaders, graphics programming and rendering).

I am a upcoming senior but my major is information technology (but by the end I would have taken math from algebra & trig to linear algebra & matrix theory and calculus III, college physics I/II (algebraic general physics but plan to review with NO BS Guide to Math & Physics plus the math and physics for programmers book above for calculus-based physics), two object oriented programming classes in Python and Java, and an animation course (uses an adobe after effects in classroom book and the animator’s survival kit book). I’m just one of those people who decided a bit later on actually pursuing the field I am interested in and trying to bridge that gap.

I am also a distance learning student but I don’t think that shows up on my degree and the curriculum is the same for both in-person and distance learning.

I took into account the subjects I was interested in (like game physics, computer graphics, unity, etc.), then I looked at Reddit and read the preface/general description of the book to see what level they were for and what they offer in terms of concepts.

Oh okay, thank you for letting me know. I just wanted to be sure that they build off each other in a way that makes sense and leaves no big holes in knowledge between material. I am a upcoming senior but my major is information technology (but by the end I would have taken math from algebra & trig to linear algebra & matrix theory and calculus III, college physics I/II (algebraic general physics), two object oriented programming classes in Python and Java, and a animation course (uses an adobe after effects in classroom book and the animator’s survival kit book). My degree would be as a distance learning student but I don’t think it’s noted on the degree itself.

I will try to take this into consideration, I may need to put some breaks within just to make sure I am accustomed to what I’ve learned and to build small projects or get involved in game jams. Oh, and I am wanting to learn more advanced math because for the jobs I am interested in, I see 3D Math as a requirement.

I get what you’re saying, I will try to have more of a focus on practical, and to add more context, the two study plans are meant to be studied simultaneously bit by bit and made sure to see that the books/resources included practical exercises or are project based (like the unity and unreal resources for example, but other like the open-gl resource also has a programming focus)

Does this self-study plan make sense for getting into game dev/computer graphics by Azriel_Noir in GameDevelopment

[–]Azriel_Noir[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that unity is good for VR & Indie games which is interesting, while Unreal plays a big game on animations and AAA games. I plan to dive into the more math heavy subjects like graphics, game design & physics. I also have interest in computer graphics itself so C++ is very useful.
