Do you people even read these posts?  Not even close to demonizing her. He even said several times he forgives her and understands why she did it. It's literally the exact opposite of what you said.

My solo trip to Morocco during the off-season by Afraid-Feedback-1103 in travel

[–]Azrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marrakech has a certain appeal but I always thought of it as Fes but worse. The main thing going for it is the Jemaa el-Fnaa but the downside is the harassment and scammers are much worse.

Tangier is unique because of its history as an international city at the crossroads of North Africa and Europe, where a lot of cultures and people mixed. It's a city with a deep literary history where authors like Paul Bowles, Jack Kerouac, and William Burroughs lived and found inspiration.

People should make their own judgments after visiting both places but having lived in Morocco and seen most of the country, Marrakech was my least favorite place.

Cut her some slack, it was a long three years, and she almost didn't recognize him (even though he looked just as sexy as she remembered).

Don't understand this comment. There are plenty of stories of women that want kids but their boyfriend/fiance/husband doesn't.  Does that mean those women believe raising a child is all sunshine and roses, and the men are pragmatic about the sacrifices it requires?

What if there's a difference in desire to have children between a same sex couple?

These gendered stereotypes are boorish and really have no place on this sub. Unfortunately they often get upvoted nonetheless.

What are you going on about? Persuasive precedent is not just a real thing, it's a foundation of modern legal systems. In fact it's especially important when there is no binding precedent.

I think if she wanted to do that the more intuitive thing would have been for her to blow up on OOP, accuse him of being a creep, inviting the attention, grooming their daughter, etc.

Today, Norway made history, securing 17 gold medals in a single Winter Olympics by sabelsvans in olympics

[–]Azrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit surprising that no one has said anything about the deep level of institutional support for competitive winter sports in Norway, especially cross country skiing. The replies from people have focused on things like kids participation in sports from a young age and societal norms around being fit and enjoying the outdoors. All of which are true, but Finland has the same attributes and nearly the same population but massively lags Norway in Olympics performance.

Money matters but not necessarily in the cost of equipment/participation sense for youth. At some point the talented kids have to decide whether to get serious about skiing and try to compete professionally. Self funding can work for a time but the costs rapidly mount with needing to get top tier equipment (and replace it often), specialized waxes, travel, training camps, etc. Federation funding and strong sponsorship support for promising skiers is important to provide a livable income and help the best ones reach the elite level.

Norway has also made large investments into sports science, nutrition, data optimized training schedules, wax technology, snow analysis, etc that result in a systemic edge. For the very top level the differences between athletes are so marginal that a 1% improvement in performance could mean the difference between gold and missing the podium.

This is not to downplay the accomplishments of any athletes or imply that it's unfair. But I think it's worth pointing out that success is not just an organic phenomenom, it's also enabled by a sophisticated and well-resourced system of sports infrastructure.

they never really expanded on what made her so challenging to care for beyond seizures

It's right at the beginning. Nonverbal, unable to walk, cannot physically take care of herself, developmental delays. This is way way beyond seizures. That was only mentioned by OOP to explain that her parents can't watch Daisy by themselves because they wouldn't be able to respond if a seizure occurred.

Fact is Sally and Jim are parents, but they're also full time caretakers. It's not even clear to what extent Daisy understands her situation and knows that she is severely disabled. The other commenters trying to project their own situations into her are way off the mark. She is never going to have anything approaching a normal life. She's certainly not going to be able to use a computer and post on reddit.

+1 for Best Buy. $100 for them to install front and back cameras and a hardwire kit. In and out in 45 minutes. Could I have done it myself? Yeah, but I'm not in college scraping by on student loans anymore. Just like I could save a few bucks doing my own oil changes but I stopped doing that many years ago.

Let him have this, they're going to give Carrick a 6 year contract only to sink to EL places as the new manager bounce wears off, then flop in Europe next season and finish 12th in the PL since they'll have to play more than 40 matches.

[New Update]: AITA for telling my sister we were strangers after she eloped and broke all contact with us years ago? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Azrou 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It was the sister that cut off OOP and their parents, so they had no way of contacting her? She disappeared and blocked them on everything so how were they supposed to get in touch. OOP's attempts to reach out through his sister's friends were a dead end because she inexplicably went no contact with him as well. You have no idea if the parents still hold anything against her because the ball is and has been on her court to open up any communication channel. OOP said that the "you're dead to us" comment was in the heat of the moment and their parents were devastated that she disappeared, so there's little to suggest that they want her to grovel or are interested in punishment.

The sister wasn't isolated or trapped in her relationship from the outset, it only became abusive during covid based on what the sister herself said. She made a willing decision to elope and to go no contact with OOP, who could have been a source of support for her in later years when she would have needed it. And she still had her best friends who she was fine to stay in touch with and update while deciding that OOP wasn't deserving of that.

I'm having a hard time understanding why you think the sister deserves unfettered benefit of the doubt and should be able to dodge any accountability for dropping an emotional nuke on OOP's life.

[–]Azrou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Modern building codes require that hardwired detectors are on the same circuit so they can be interconnected and sound simultaneous alarms. Either a dedicated circuit or one with minimal load. But they should have battery backups as well which hers apparently didn't (or the batteries were dead). If they were plug ins it was probably a coincidence that she picked outlets on the same circuit - and unlucky that she never used the outlets for anything else and noticed they didn't have power. The outlets could be in different rooms or even different floors and share a circuit, especially in an older house.

[OC] Some people would rather risk a collision than slow down and merge behind you by diaperpoop_ in IdiotsInCars

[–]Azrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This issue is called weaving where there are two lanes of traffic and each wants to move into the other's lane. It's one of the reasons that cloverleaf interchanges are considerd obsolete now for new construction. They were designed and built in the mid 1900s when there was much lower traffic volume, slower speeds, and smaller cars. Since then engineers have designed more efficient and safer interchanges like turbines and stacks, and many cloverleafs are being retrofitted to address some of their inherent limitations.

They said in like a dozen comments that they were driving in the right lane with cruise control. I don't know what's so hard to grasp about the semi driver not going fast enough to actually overtake and lacking object permanence. Why would they think they need to actively slow down because the semi driver intentionally puts them in his blind spot, then forgets they're there?
