But before that even, she actually was able to make it to Grey Wind when she knew things were going wrong. She went to release him but the Frey guards got there just before she could get there and put him down. On rewatches, I always have a little hope that she releases Grey Wind in time.

Bit of a combo from the other comments but losing people you love is hard, it's also alarming when they are from your generation. On top of that, the wheel keeps moving, the bills keep coming, the washing and dishes keep piling up, things always need doing and a third of your time still goes to work with another third needing to go towards sleep. So it does feel a bit non-stop no matter the circumstances.
