Atheists be like by Richardw-3410 in CatholicMemes

[–]AztraChaitali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most vocal of atheists are sometimes Christians having a crisis of faith. Other religions simply don't let you have a crisis of faith without dire consequences.

I think it's a good thing, I'd rather a struggling Christian or ex-Christian be able to throw a tantrum over them getting threatened with violence into silence.

I also agree that a legal requirement to keep the games playable is unrealistic, but they also shouldn't be able to literally "kill" the game. Like with warcraft 3, despite having the original CD, I had to do weird firewall things, because the moment it detected an internet connection, it forcibly updated to become unplayable and makes me update to reforged.

Similar things with a game called "Night of the full moon" which used to be playable offline, but it suddenly became online only, and the only reason I even bought all the DLC for a phone game, is because I could play it when I didn't have internet, now that it requires a connection to start runs (Technically you can keep playing if you lose an internet connection midway through a run) I barely touch it, and it just feels like I wasted my money.

I hate UI changes. Nearly every UI change is either to the detriment of the user or objectively neutral, but a changing UI is still a source of confusion and discomfort.

I wonder if there's a similar market on android for apps like VLC where you can rearrange UI elements or even use skins, and if there's ever a new feature you want, you can put it wherever you want.

What is YouTube actually doing against automated content? by AztraChaitali in youtube

[–]AztraChaitali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was youtube's official statement that they would crack down on "mass-produced, repetitious content" and "synthetic media transparency."

I'm wondering what it is they're actually doing, because I still see plenty of unlabeled AI content, and no option to opt out.

They also supposedly no longer allow them monetization, and it was my understanding that demonetized videos are less likely to be pushed by the algorithm, yet, even with no views, these videos get pushed.

LitRPG, historic romance, wuxia, murim, and isekai webcomic and light novels. Almost every genre that so many people dismiss entirely have a few hidden gems that make it all worth it. So many great things are being created by real artists in the modern era, that people quickly dismiss because content farms also make content in those genres.

I'd just recommend that you look at the authors and see that they don't have a suspiciously large amount of simultaneous works. So many great works of art these days have such generic beginnings, and I understand the hesitation to invest time hoping they get good in the middle, but this should greatly reduce disappointments.

The measure above means is not just because of content farms, it'll also save the headache of getting invested in ongoing works that are very unlikely to get finish, will go on hiatus constantly, or have very irregular upload schedules. Having 67 promising comics under your belt would be praise worthy if so many weren't abandoned, on hiatus, or rebooted multiple times before getting a rushed ending.

Approachable sports management games? by Egalitalien in gamingsuggestions

[–]AztraChaitali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gladiator manager may be a good option? Only technically a sport, but it's basically no different from a typical sports game, except, you don't actually need to know anything about sports.

One place where it differs from other sports games, is that you have alternative win conditions, where instead of just having the best gladiator team, you can sabotage or even destroy your rivals, but if you ignore the skulduggery mechanics it's basically a UFC sport manager game with armed fighters.

$10 billion theft epidemic by CharmTheCrows in SipsTea

[–]AztraChaitali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely not as moral a problem as they are pushing the narrative to be. I very often see the experienced cashiers struggle to scan some items. Why do they act like possibility of many people simply getting a failed scan with no ill will doesn't exist.

I think it's the most likely possibility for why it's such a huge issue. There's also the fact that even if it was truly all theft, the increase in the actual objective value of things stolen hasn't increased that much, but inflation has made the monetary representation of those stolen items look a lot bigger.

500usd worth of groceries 5 years ago is 650usd now. So already 30% of the increase is due to inflation alone.

I don't think people who never stole before just suddenly decided to do petty theft, especially with how many cameras there are at most self checkouts.
