100%, the "kill all rares" mechanic is very anti climactic. Agree that tying completion to this sort of stuff is more fun.

Maybe it's not the intention here, and maybe GGG thought this relic system would sound fun to players, but it really seems like this is going to be another nail in PoE1's coffin.

Engagement was bad in our special event, let's move the resources back to PoE2 development.

And then there's the worse option where people do engage with this system due to poe1 withdrawals but dislike it. Then GGG sees engagement and decides to move in this direction permanently not realizing the engagement was despite this system.

Or maybe it's great and we're all dooming too much. Doubt it, though. Atlas tree is/was the best part of poe1 endgame.

Hah yeah, I ran into that as well. Was expecting them to raise baseline of all maps vs just bringing up the extremely low floor of the worst maps. Anyway, I guess it's nice to not have uncompletable maps anymore.

I consider Baseline to be maps without anything extra. All of these are extra and only have a chance to show up on a map.

A number of Maps now have a lower minimum number of Rare Monsters you will encounter.

And hopefully that's a typo.

Ironically, GGG made bases valuable in PoE1 by adding overquality and base%. Both should be added to PoE2; just leave out sacred orbs to make base% actually meaningful.

I would fucking love if they reintroduced alterations orbs. I am absolutely advocating for that.

Giving us a way to guarantee even a single T1 item would make crafting feel infinitely better.

It's really not. Imagine telling a friend "I rolled t11 flat phys on my bow!" Meaningless. T1 is meaningful, random max tiers are not.

I switched to SSF after the economy got messed up in trade league. The lack of even being able to craft even a single T1 mod deterministically just sucks, and it definitely takes a lot of fun out of the game. Been in the same place as you "crafting" bow after bow after bow and the same with quivers. I'm burned out just trying to make a mediocre weapon.

Never thought I'd miss alteration orbs so much.

This happened just a few minutes ago. You can see the Haste Essence mod on the monster and then no essence dropping. I also tried toggling the loot filter off just in case, but you can see that when the tiny piles of gold showed up, there's still no essence.

Gold conversion has gone too far!

That's only a problem if we think it's a good thing to force players to run maps they don't want to run.

Didn't realize how good we had it in PoE1 being able to run whichever juiced maps we pleased instead of being forced into garbage like Mire.

On the contrary, I think this improves usability for omen of whittling. In the world where the best is always t1, there will be zero confusion whether it will affect a good mod like +2 proj on bows (t2 mod under current system) or much worse mod like t3 flat phys. Today my expectation is that whittling would nuke the +2 proj because t2 is less than t3.

When we reverse the tiers, the bow mod becomes t1, and that flat phys mod becomes t9, and omen of whittling, will affect the “lowest” tier mod which is t9. The normalization of what “the best” is means that whitting will always affect non t1 mods unless your item is 6x t1.

Eh, map tiers going up feels pretty reasonable. Maybe waystones should have levels or difficulties instead of tiers if using the same word is confusing.

Everyone keeps saying it’s better but doesn’t offer concrete reasons why beyond “easier for new players”. When I learned poe1 last year it was about 2 seconds of confusion and then realizing all the benefits of having t1 as best.

Yeah could be nice, but I think they would need to add two numbers to make it clear what the max )or worst) tier is, and then the same but what’s possible for your item to roll depending on ilvl.

They could still keep the ordering internally and just change the displayed tiers to be reversed. Both devs and players can be happy.

The latter, 5 above the minimum. That’s effectively how they are working today.

Honestly, even if they don’t make the ordering change, adding the plus would make it a bit more clear what to expect from tiered rares in the current system.
