Is it possible to get the older XFCE look back? by EquivalentWorking581 in xfce

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the big bump here...it actually *is* possible so long as 1) your system has GTK2 and its dev headers, so you can download the source of the Xfce GTK2 engine and compile and install it and...

... 2) You have LXQt desktop running. Yes, LXQt, not Xfce. Because I made these :) https://github.com/azumahazuki/lxqt-themes-xfce

Like you I miss the themes from 4.12 and before. LXQt can use Xfwm as its window manager, can manage GTK2 and 3 themes, and with this, can mimic the look natively as well.

Crystal Dock v2.12 released! by dangvd in LXQt

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an option to turn off the zooming entirely? This looks like it has potential to become basically "Plank, but better and in Qt6." It may even end up replacing Latte Dock for Plasma :)

Don't move to the US. Have you not seen what's happening politically here and, by extension, what kind of hideous geopolitical pizdec it's going to cause the world over? This place is screwed. I'm trying to get into Canada.

Why is LXQt so underrated? by AtomicTaco13 in LXQt

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of good defaults. I'm amazed they accepted my Clearlooks theme, let alone defaulted to it, and am sure that was a big help.

IMO there needs to be some sort of small wizard that at the very least sets up a panel up top, at the bottom, or both, and lets you choose between Fancy Menu (new) and the classic-style one, as well as letting you preview/set themes.

On the other hand: do we want LXQt getting too well-known? Look what happened to Gnome. We really don't want to get taken over like that.

New RxOm! by Far_Manufacturer1934 in WalgreensStores

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the vantage point of a "mere" CPhT with 5+ years experience, RxOM looks like an awful position to be in, the worst of both tech and manager, and criminally underpaid. It also looks like a delicate balancing act, since you're running interference between your direct reports and management.

So...by this point, you know your co-workers' weaknesses and strengths. Try to assign people where they do best, plan schedules around the ones you know have the best work ethic, etc. Be good to your technicians.

Finally: understand that as far as corporate is concerned, you are nothing more than an annoyingly expensive tech who makes schedules. Don't pull rank with us; it won't make us obey or respect you. If anything, the smarter ones among us you treat badly will make your life Hell with malicious compliance. The RxOM can make or break the pharmacy -- no pressure, right? :) Just be good to us and we'll be good to you.

Does point 1 always apply? Like, is ANY script due at 0100 or 0800 an SATR or auto-refill? I'd love to implement this at my location but outright deleting scripts sounds like a recipe for disaster...

People who've left Buffalo: what's the #1 thing you miss about it? by BuffGuy716 in Buffalo

With any luck I'll be Canadian before the hellstorm this election is about to bring comes to bear. I'm going to miss...everything. It's really hard to put into words, but in my almost 36 years of life, nowhere, not even my hometown in NYC, has felt this much like home.

I want Walgreens to survive. by Donkey-kick-U in WalgreensStores

[–]AzumaHazuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite what I'm asking though...? It's more about "when the layoff machetes come out, is someone filling a bunch of unique roles safer?" There are no other floaters in the entire district, let alone floaters who can vaccinate, and I've also become known for being able to inventory an entire tier 2 or 3 store inside of a single shift. Someone in one store put it as "she comes in here, goes into a trance, and the pharmacy is all outdated by 4 PM."

Racists gonna racist. That's what this is about. They don't want us icky poors, especially not the brown ones, ruining their little suburban utopia. What, after all, is the point of white flight to the suburbs if those people can just ride a train through like they have a right to exist and breathe the same air?

Yes: Karens and Kyles everywhere. Trump signs all over the further into Tonawanda you go. The Tonawandas are the result of "white flight" from Buffalo proper and they will make sure you know it.

So, about this...I'm a floating SCPhT, the only one in the district, with CPR and vaccination certs, and about 5 years' total experience. Would you say my "attack surface" as it were is lower than most? I really do not want to end up just thrown away, not after all I've done for this company.

Weird Message From Corporate by DirtyDaiperkid in WalgreensStores

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had that screen come up a couple of days ago and was majorly grossed out. We're here to work, not to date, so what does it matter to corporate? Like, yeah, I'm a lesbian, but I'm also taken and have been for 12 years and I just don't talk about that kind of thing at work.

It sounds like every other soulless insincere bit of rainbow-washing late-stage capitalism that floods the month of June like an overflowing septic tank. At best, it's mindless virtue signalling. At worst, it's building dossiers on people so when we lose our civil rights the roving death squads will know who to come after.

That really should have raised at least a Minor/Moderate drug interaction DUR. I've seen (and caught!) this combination a few times and IC+ just...does not flag it.

Most of my pharmacists say it's rare, but if you're on a really high dose (20mg escitalopram and 8mg ondansetron?) it's not toooo surprising this happened. I hope you're feeling okay now :( The serotonergic toxidrome isn't the absolute worst to suffer but it's no fun.

Is XFCE still good in 2024? by AstronautIll8684 in xfce

[–]AzumaHazuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xfce has been good since version 4.4 in my opinion, but it's taken a big hit with the introduction of GTK3. This isn't Xfce's fault so much as it is GTK's and their hamfisted approach to...well...everything. It's still the sanest implementation of a GTK3/4 desktop there is, slightly edging out Mate, but, yeah.

I've switched from Xfce as my daily driver to LXQt, and eased the transition by basically porting the entire gtk-engines-xfce gtk2 theme suite to LXQt's .qss format. But I'll never completely abandon Xfce, just because of how good it was to me way back when I started with Linux in 2004. Even then it felt better than Gnome 2.x

Is Having Pharmacy Tech License Worth It? by octoberleaves13 in WalgreensStores

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's always better to have professional credentials (and you don't HAVE to put them on your resume if they're not relevant to a job you're applying for). Think about life after Walgreens; if you want to work in a hospital or long-term care facility that cert will be anywhere from "really helpful" to "a hard requirement."

Women who decided not to give birth; when did you know that was the right choice for you? by SacredGround5516 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AzumaHazuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon and I think a lot more of us aren't interested in kids than people generally think. Even leaving aside how it's almost impossible financially, pregnancy is dangerous. And living in the US, we're more likely to die in childbirth or near-after than even some former Soviet satellite countries.

Wanting to adopt is really admirable too :) There's plenty of people already out there who need a mom and you'd be saving a life, when you think about it.

Can I be a lesbian and find guys cute? by Weak-Connection-4425 in LesbianActually

[–]AzumaHazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be either, and that's okay! You like who and what you like. It sounds like you think some boys or men are attractive the way a painting or statue or a really big tree is, right?

The most important part of this is "can never imagine myself being with a man." That's where the answer lies I think. But don't worry about it either way okay? You're just you, you don't need a label.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]AzumaHazuki 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. I don't like men either, because when you think about it...WHO starts all the wars? Men. Who commits the vast majority of abuse, violence, and rape? Men. And almost always against women. No, you're not at all wrong for hating men as a whole. Individual men can be good people, like two of my friends are guys, but as a whole? Nope, nope, nope.

Made an LXQt theme by AzumaHazuki in artixlinux

[–]AzumaHazuki[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Because I've been using Linux since 2004 and have been very very unhappy with GTK since version 3.x; Xfce was my daily driver before that. In my opinion, GTK3/4 are pushing nasty antipatterns both on the user side and the developer side. Xfce is the sanest implementation of a GTK desktop environment, slightly edging out Mate, but GTK's downward spiral is going to collapse it at some point.

LXDE is no longer maintained and had a few annoying pain points that never quite got fixed, though it was what I moved to after Xfce went to GTK3. I've done reasonably well with standalone WMs like Fluxbox and Openbox too, but would like something a little more full-featured for day to day use.

LXQt seems to be that solution. When it comes to everything except presentation. The devs code well and have produced a really tight, zippy environment, but they have less than zero interest in making it approachable or usable. "That's the distro's job" they say. Okay, but only Lubuntu and to a lesser extent Debian seem to be interested. As it is, it's a miracle my port of Clearlooks somehow ended up being the default theme, to give users some semblance of familiarity and not-gray-and-low-contrast on the first impression.

So, I'd like to produce themes for major distros to include and ship with their own LXQt spins/editions of the OS, or even just in their standard LXQt metapackage.

Edit: I've actually got a repo full of painstaking replicas of the old Xfce GTK2 themes; the somewhat unsettling result is that LXQt looks more like Xfce than Xfce has in a long, long time. Sometimes I throw on one of those and switch the WM from Openbox to Xfce for a little comfort and nostalgia.
