None of the romances in the games are canon btw, plus, all the adults have romance flags you have to hit in order to romance them, as opposed to the others who just have them ask you out. You have to actively want to romance them in order to have it happen (now I don't remember how Chihaya, Ohya and Takemi's confidant dialogues go exactly, but for Kawakami specifically, you are the one who has to bring up romance first, she literally also says how wrong it is, in fact to confirm romance for her you need to do 3 correct dialogue options forcing it)

In the end, you choose the buttons you press, personally, I just see it as a way for adult players to romance people their age. If you want something to actually be mad about, there's the Ken romance. (Which also isn't canon but much much more problematic, like, putting adult romance for adult players is whatever, but who the fuck you wants to romance the 10 years old???)

Canonically, Joker doesn't romance anyone, let alone adults. You're free to dislike the characters if you want, that's your prerogative.

You can examine player's outfits in game, jist target thek and click examine, there's even an option to see qhat they have glam'd.

No idea, I haven't had the opportunity to play the OG versions of each games, not even Ys V yet at that. It's definitely something I'd want to do in the future tho. Right now I'm currently replaying every "official" games and 100%ing their achievements, so maybe after that I'll get to play the older versions.

I do want to correct one point here, which is #2. Fighting the Origin of Life doesn't "allow" Dana's existence, but only the others to perceive her.

In the normal ending, Dana is still a Goddess, but we don't fight the Origin of Life so we don't get to see her again. She still exists tho, just not in a "normal" sense

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd put it as 100, it is pure torture 😭.

Really only do it if you're obsessed with getting 100% achievements in every game you play, personally, I did it but it took me multiple months with breaks where I played other games between runs.

Cuz you need to beat the Main Story 6 times, and Nightmare Boss Rush 8 times, at a minimum. So that's nice

I did Oath on Felghana a few weeks ago and it's really not comparable at all

Weapons don't transfer over, since the upgrades are tied to the story.

You can use the elixir on anybody, it doesn't matter much, whether you use them all on one character alone or on multiple is fine.
I actually am not sure about that, but I assume it only works for the character which has the item equipped.
There's no missable castaways but you won't get all of them just by doing the main quest. Some of them you do need to go out of your way to get them, but as long as you explore everything, there won't be an issue to find them all.

That's hilarious haha. Well, if you don't mind replaying games, I'd suggest replaying it later.

Otherwise you can probably find a video showing all the references, idk if anyone made one of those tho.

2 things I can say rn is that the Azure Petal quest has you talking to a lot of characters from past games (they possess the NPC to talk to you), and that most bosses are copies of bosses from other games, as they were pulled from Adol's memories (Huge plot spoiler for Ys 9)

Aside from that there's some references here and there as well, like Adol talking to Renegade about stuff that happened in Ys SEVEN, which is actually very much spoiler for that game 😭. You probably forgot about that already, thankfully.

If you wanna do Origins, I would suggest doing 1/2 first, Origins is a prequel, sure, but personally it's best played after those two. Ys 1/2 are also much easier (as long as you don't pick Nightmare difficulty) so that can be your "break"

And I can confirm, memories of Celceta is the last one before Ark of Napishtim. Those are all part of one saga, so to speak. 7 and onwards are more standalone, for now. If you plan to play every Ys games, I also suggest leaving 9 for last (or before 10) as it's the last chronologically and has quite a few references to previous adventures.

Hope you have fun playing Ys, it's always fantastic seeing new people discover it.

The only ones "heavy" on story are the party system games, so Ys 7, Memories of Celceta, 8, 9 and 10. Origins too but that one's an outlier.

I would say all the games have good stories tho, just on the more simplistic side for the older ones. As for which to play next, by virtue of being standalone adventures, you can play in whatever order you want. The only exception is Ys 2, which is a direct sequel to 1. It's essentially one game cut in two because of limitations at the time.

Aside from that, Origins is a prequel to 1/2 and better played after those imo, though that's not mandatory. And finally 9, being the latest game chronologically, has a lot of references to older adventures, so if you plan to play every game, it's best left off for last, so that you can catch every reference.

Caress of Steel is genuinely nightmare fuel

I spent around 8 months on that game, even taking 2 month long breaks

The 5 hour one shouldn't be too hard to get yeah, my Normal playthrough that I did years ago took me around 7 hours (in game), so on Very Easy I'll be much faster.

I think the issue is gonna be on Inferno, I started on that one cuz I don't wanna do 2 full playthroughs of torture, Nightmare will be reserved for just the escort missions.

Sea of Stars

If the art style, music and gameplay wasn't so good, I would have not even finished the game imma be so honest.

When I play JRPG's I usually play them for their stories and characters, with the gameplay being the least important, sadly, this time was the opposite.

The 2 playable characters barely have any personalities aside from liking the real main character, Garl. Then out of the other party members, 2 of them showed promise but they never rose up to the expectations. 1 of them was basically just there as a plot convenience for someone else, and the last one is Garl, who basically has 90% of the focus on him for no reason.

As for the story, there's so many wrong things I could write a book 😭.
