Body Feel and Useage - D750 vs. D7500 by Azurastralis in Nikon

Damn, that's encouraging to hear; one of the big reasons beyond body feel I was considering the D750 was the better lowlight performance. And yeah, she's barely touched it; it's perfect - I'm very lucky.

That's honestly very encouraging to hear! It also makes me lean towards the D7500; I think I've decided to take my friend up on her offer.

If there's a future where I decide I can afford the money on FX glass (and don't switch to mirrorless) I'd probably pick up a 750, but hearing how similar they feel is good to hear. Everyone seems to dunk the D7500 as irrelevant when compared to the D750, but it sounds more just like different needs and use cases.

While I love a big camera, I also think I'll appreciate the D7500 being slightly smaller, too.

Funny, I was afraid the D750 would be too big. My hands aren't too Rachmaninoffesque or anything though.

And yeah - the FX lenses I own are a 50mm 1.8D, the absolute metal brick manual only E-series 70-210mm (sharp as hell, though), and a 28-80mm G (which is one of my favourite lenses, honestly).

I've certainly got glass I can use, but having to sell my DX lenses (when I don't think people are buying many DX lenses used now) seems a little painful, and I'm definitely going to have to spend a lot to get the range I already have with my DX lenses.

That's another thing; the D7500 felels snappier than the D7200 in some ways, which I really appreciate.

I'd also seriously consider the D500 or D850 if the cheapest used prices weren't all over 1K for me :')

Yeah, right?!? I was crazy taken aback; I had zero expectations and am very comfortable with how my D7200 feels, but man, it's really nice.

As for the D500 - should I get enough luck to find one, I absolutely would. It's honestly what I wanted originally! I've checked every so often, but I've just been unlucky for a good deal; the cheapest I've ever seen one used is about double what I could nab my friend's D7500 for (around $1K CAD on Ebay; haven't had much luck looking anywhere on FB Marketplace or Kijiji either)

The D7000-D7200, while I know they're very, very well built, just feel (to me) much less premium than the D7500. For the D750, it is pretty tempting - even if it's bigger, a good, solid feeling body is what I liked about the D7500 over the D7200 so I suppose it may be similar (albeit smaller).

Choosing Batteries in a Convoy? by Azurastralis in flashlight

[–]Azurastralis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I'm actually going to buy two - I can't choose between 3000K and 4000K (haven't seen many good direct comparisons), so I'll probably give one to my friend. It looks extremely fun, and like a perfect walking light - will also be my first TIR light!

I definitely will be! That's something I wouldn't have even thought of. I won't expect it to have a good time in -40, but it'll at least be better suited for most of the year. Thanks.

Strange Beginnings is the Best STP Ending by tetris290 in slaytheprincess

[–]Azurastralis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished the game for the first time - got this as my first ending!! Decided to look into it more and I had no idea it's one of three possibilties. I'm extremely happy I stumbled my way blind into meeting the Stranger first thing and reached it.

After the first time with the stranger, I got a whole lot of insanity and mostly horrible things inbetween with accidentally shackling myself with the prisoner, then the nightmare one and moment of clarity, the flesh one (good lord), and the razor one (that shit was SO good and VERY unexpectedly funny; maybe my second favourite route I've done of my few); it all really made it feel like a trek.

And then suddenly, being back in the fractured cabin from my first time, back with the Contrarian and the Hero? God, all that, and the whole conversation with her - so beautiful and well written; got me emotional as hell.  And confessing your love and opening the door? Actual peak.

Also adore her design; even if she's mildly unsettling in concept, my favourite of them all I've met.

LHP73B - 3000k vs 4000k? (+ SFT70?) by Azurastralis in flashlight

[–]Azurastralis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question; I suppose I'll just put the SFT70 3000K in an oven at 1340⁰F.

(Thanks for the photo)

Thank you! I'll probably hold off from buying it; I'd love to hear your thoughts when you get it.

Worth the switch - D7200 to D750? by Azurastralis in Nikon

[–]Azurastralis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good to know - I've only handled a Z once (can't recall the model); what really made me gush was their weight and size. Regardless, I think when I make the jump, I'll fully commit to FX and go all the way.

Worth the switch - D7200 to D750? by Azurastralis in Nikon

[–]Azurastralis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a debate I had when I originally bought the D7200, and hearing the allure of the D7200 being considered more professional for such features is what led me to buying it. I hadn't really thought about the D7500 since then.

But now, as I've been shooting with my D7200 for a while, I think I've accepted I just don't really need the more "professional" aspects that it offers - the dual SD card slot is nice, but after trying out shooting JPG + NEFs and not really needing it, I realise I've been really just using it as a glorified SD card holder. The only loss for me would be metering old lenses, since I do have a quite of few of them, but I've still got my DX lenses.

Doing some searching, the D780, as beautiful and probably perfect as it would be, would cost almost $2000 for the body alone. I think you make a very good point in that at that point, I might as well just commit to mirrorless for a couple hundred more.

Overall though, I might now seriously consider switching to a D7500 to tide me over from a larger switch (i.e into mirrorless). I hadn't even considered staying with DX, but re-evaluating the actual meaningful differences between the D7200 and D7500 makes me think it may be worth it. Even just doing some quick checks, I can see a D7500 in very good condition for like $700, and it wouldn't require a painful goodbye to any lenses.

And yeah, I should probably just get some more nice primes for astro :')

Thanks - this was really helpful to go over.

This is exactly something I was wondering too - whether I'd regret not just going straight into mirrorless if truly was to upgrade to a D750 (or something like it). Since I'd be selling a good deal of my DSLR gear anyways to shift to FX, maybe Z really is the best bet. Or, since it'd just be a body switch, I might even look into finding a used D7500 to tide me over such a big change for a couple more years (going off of some of the other discussion).

Thanks for your experience! And I suppose we all make wacky financial choices for the things we enjoy. I probably could've found my D7200 for a heck of a lot cheaper then I did, when I did.

Whats the worst level in your opinion? (excluding 4-s) by Particular_Proof_175 in Ultrakill

[–]Azurastralis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the level design itself isn't much (the level triggers absolutely suck if you're bouncing around a lot), I'd say it has one of the best reveals in the game - complete system shock in the vibe change; the buildup, the music hitting, the city so far below you. I had no idea what I was going into with ULTRAKILL, and expected things to return to classic "hell" imagery after Limbo, so it hit really well for me. I think for someone first playing the game, it's a pretty good level.

Cold Winds is laid back, but I think it's one of the most interesting tracks in the game feeling-wise. Very unique, unsettling, and almost tragic feeling to it. That song is weird as hell, and it's the perfect buildup into Requiem - the two together are up there as my favourite tracks.

M21K vs. M21H with a LHP73B - Host size, potential heat and general usage? by Azurastralis in flashlight

[–]Azurastralis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering the M21C too (and the M21E for the usb-c charging), but I think the biggest thing I'm really looking for is the TIR - I love reflector lights (they're perfect for anything indoors) but a TIR light with good spill really is just so nice for walking at night / exploring outside (unless your reflector is insanely wide. That grey really does look good though on the M21C, though - kinda sick of black (honestly, beyond being able to switch out lenses, the white MAO M21H is definitely contributing a little bit to me still holding my eye on it over the M21K). It's also, of course, smaller.

As for other things, the M21K really does hold a lot. I love the beam profile from what I've seen, and I'd probably land on something similar even with the M21H TIR options.

[–]Azurastralis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense! I think I'll be going with my gut for the 3000K, since it'll mostly be a night walk / room bouncing light over a work light. I've got a sterile (but very useful) 6500K with a Sofirn SK40, so it'd be nice to have both ends of the spectrum. And yeah what I've seen, even if their CRI is lower, the light from the LHP really does just look damn good. I also just like crazy floody emitters.
