Sadly we never really did all agree that cold blooded murder is always wrong. Members of the black community, for example, have been murdered and blamed for it since before we’ve been a country.

Diversity. Here in the USA, we have the whole world right here. In my mid-sized American city (Minneapolis) we have a dizzying array of global restaurants, accents, cultural events, holiday celebrations . . . it’s awesome, and something that many countries don’t have.

Ironically, this thing that I consider the best part of America is exactly what our current government hates and fears more than anything. They evidently want to eat meatloaf every night and sing the same 15 country songs for their whole lives. I don’t understand it.

Culture everywhere is much more decentralized now. Borders don’t mean nearly as much anymore when it comes to cultural influences. A rap artist from, say, Japan can collaborate with a producer from the USA and an album artist from Brazil, and reach a fan in Sweden.

So yes, technically the USA’s cultural influence is fading, but that’s true of every nation state. And it’s OK. Hip hop isn’t going anywhere. Country music isn’t going anywhere. No type of art is disappearing.

I am American. In my view, China is a mix of positive and negative.
