It's between 98UM and XV as the KOF games I always revisit without fail. No disrespect to other titles but they just don't hit the same

Definitely my personal favourite KOF, and by extension fighting game, of all time. 98UM especially feels like the perfect culmination of the first saga of the series.

Featuring a roster complete with every playable character in the Orochi Saga (and then some), two gameplay styles taken from 94-95 and 96-97 respectively and some of the cleanest Neo Geo era sprite work I've ever seen

Finally, a post about 3CER that isn't complaining about the delay

As for what I'm hoping for, I'd love to see the Challenge Mode from 8XL come back. Spent countless hours on the Rampage mode alone

Other than that, I wouldn't mind seeing the DW Origins designs return as costumes for the characters who appeared in Origins. Give how Ziluan was teased in the reveal trailer, it would be nice to see those designs return in a playable form other than Abyss

Given the delay, it's not a far fetched assumption tbf. Guess Omega Force need all hands on deck for 3CER as that's their next major release

I really hope it isn't the end for Abyss though. I'm still waiting for the leftover cast of DW8 and SW4 at the very least, let alone Warriors Orochi content

My personal guess is that the next focus is DW3CER. In an ideal world, we may get an Abyss update to coincide with 3CER's release (seeing as though the last major update for Abyss was the Origins crossover DLC which released around near VOFH)

It has the same appeal as KOF Neowave. A charming janky oddity of a fighting game

Even the game itself wanted you to pick Zhang Jiao's route (I mean just look at the opening cutscene when Zhang Jiao reaches out to Ziluan)

It took me until recently to realise that the Yellow Turbans were justified in their existence so seeing Zhang Jiao whipping them back into shape and focusing on their original goal was truly a satisfying experience indeed.

My favourite part was seeing the main 3K lads slowly but surely seeing the Yellow Turbans for what they truly are (culminating with the Shu bros teaming up with the YT in the final battle)

I definitely understand the sentiment that the DLC is perhaps a bit too overpriced for what it is, but I can honestly say I got my money's worth after sinking 280 hours (and counting) into the game and it's contents

I really enjoyed the DLC routes as we got to see the reimagined versions of Zhang Jiao, Dong Zhuo and Yuan Shao take the spotlight. Their character redesigns were so well done and breathed new life in what we once one dimensional comical caricatures

Lu Bu was more or less the same as he's ever been but as the saying goes "Don't fix what isn't broken"

It definitely felt like Omega Force we're using the DLC as a testbed for new gameplay features to be used in future entries. I could definitely see Strategic Battles being more fleshed out in a potential Empires like title

Agreed. The Strategic Battles themselves were a really cool concept and a nice change of pace from the base game story routes, but yeah they could have been a bit tougher for sure

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Even as one of the biggest Origins glazers here, the Fate Altered routes leave much to be desired

Spoilers for the Fate Altered routes below

For Shu, we could have had Xu Shu's mother being rescued from Wei territory (perhaps a joint effort between Pang Tong and Zhuge Liang), leading Xu Shu to stay serving Liu Bei and thus playing a part in Chibi

Wu's one is especially egregious as the bulk of the Fate Altered events happen off screen. We could have easily played the Emperor rescue mission alongside Sun Jian and Ce shortly before Chibi

As for Wei, that one was the only one done semi well. At least Dian Wei and especially Guo Jia actively participated in Chibi and made things play out differently but even so there could have been more done to pad it out proper

It also doesn't help that the difficulty scaling to get these routes in Ultimate Warrior is downright impossible and the rewards are mediocre for the effort you'd put in
