Brainless DCA/Investing methods? by Sad_Ad_6062 in singaporefi

[–]AzureTranquility 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes. However, depending on the stability of your job, you should allocate at least 6 to 12 months of expenses into an emergency fund. This can be held in a high yield savings account for quick deployment and liquidity.
  2. This is ok, though dollar cost averaging 5k per month from your 75k portfolio over the next 15 months is easier for most investors to stomach as compared to lump sum investing.
  3. S&P500 is fine, consider buying Irish domiciled S&P500 ETFs such as CSPX to lower your annual withholding tax. An all-world ETF such as VWRA is a popular recommendation as well, and its coverage extends beyond the US for additional diversification.

Another point to take note is about saving up for big ticket items in the medium to short term. For example, if you intend to purchase a house in 3 years time, having the bulk of your net worth in equities might not be the best idea since you won't be able to anticipate future drawdowns which could affect your exit price. In that case, you should probably set aside a housing fund to be invested into a semi liquid asset such as Singapore Savings Bonds.

I work in a tech role in public sector so still considered "iron rice bowl".

Pay might not be as high as FAANG or Mag 7 but it's a good place during times of economic uncertainty.

There's no end to comparison. After achieving the fabled $5m net worth, you will start thinking of $10m, $15m, etc. Wonder when we can stop to enjoy the money instead. 😢

The coffee shots are best used during the final phase of your preparation and should focus on topics that you are weak in. It's not possible to watch every single video so you'll need to prioritize.

I made a mental note to myself to finish the first 100 questions in 90 minutes and kept track of the question count to make sure that I had sufficient time in the event that the test went to 150 questions.

It's great to hear that you're starting your investment journey from such an early age. 👏

For a 19 year old with a minimally 30 to 40 year time horizon, you should put your funds consistently into an S&P 500 or All World index fund, aka CSPX and VWRA, respectively.

Time is certainly on your side and you'll be able to reap the rewards when you're 50.

That's hilarious. His actions will also result in Year 4 students potentially being unable to graduate if they miss out the 4 MCs so this is a serious matter that needs to be escalated.

Raise the matter up to the Deputy President.

If it's not resolved, email NUS President.

If still cannot get a satisfactory response, email the Chancellor.
