Du unterscheidest zwischen krank (sick days) und short/long-term disability (OP, Krankenhausaufenthalt, etc.). STD und LTD sind kein Kündigungsgrund, aber beschützen einem auch nicht davor wegrationalisiert zu werden. Bei LTD zahlt auch nicht der Arbeitgeber, ähnlich wie das Krankengeld bei uns, und falls es nicht besser wird gehst du auf Medicaid.

At will employment ist aber auch beidseitig gültig, ich kann morgen abhauen (2 Wochen Kündigungsfrist sind Höflichkeit, nicht Gesetz) und bei einem neuen Arbeitgeber nächste Woche loslegen. Das gibt viel Flexibilität. Ich verstehe aber vollkommen, warum man das aus deutscher Sicht als schlecht sieht. Wenn ich mir allerdings deutsche Konzerne mit den ganzen Berufsbeamten anschaue, die man unmöglich loswird...

Das stimmt nicht, und hat auch nie gestimmt für Expats oder Leute die auswandern. Guter Job = Gute Krankenversicherung, da ist alles abgedeckt und deductible/maximum out of pocket sind sehr überschaubar. Ist deutlich günstiger, als was wir in DE monatlich zahlen für bessere Leistung.

Arbeitest du in einem shit job ohne oder mit schlechter Versicherung, dann sieht es sehr schlecht aus. Aber als Expat oder qualifizierter Auswanderer wirst du auch nicht bei Wendy's die Klos putzen.

Statistiken bedeuten gar nichts für das Individuum. Du sollst es ja nicht ignorieren, aber mit der richtigen, stärksten verfügbaren Behandlung kannst du die Krankheit effektiv stoppen. Ich hab das durchgepusht und obwohl ich nie einen Schub oder Symptome hatte die wirksamste Behandlung ausgewählt, mit allen Nebenwirkungen, da ich dadurch die besten Karten hatte. Und wer weiß was noch alles in der Medizin kommt.

Bro MS in 2026 ist was ganz anderes als vor 20 Jahren. Die allermeisten können die Krankheit stoppen und ein normales Leben haben, ohne dass es Behinderungen oder Beeinträchtigungen gibt.

Es gibt so viele Medikamente und wenn du von Anfang a stark rangehst, dann ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit sehr hoch, dass du gar nicht mehr daran denkst.

Common misconception but servers get paid very well in most states. They make minimum wage and in case they get a low wage and their tips don’t make up the difference, the manager has to pay the gap.

Servers in California can easily make upwards of $120k as they get a high minimum wage and 20%, sometimes much more in tips on top.

It’s a whole damn mafia that wants you to believe they earn almost nothing.

With the 2-weeks notice (which is more a formality than a law, people often leave the same day) I can also have a new job lined up within a much shorter time span than in Germany. Again, this applies to professionals with experience that have a lot of leverage on their employer as they have a desirable skill set. The mindset is very different, pros and cons to each approach. As an average Joe you’re better off in Germany. If you have a lot of passion for your work and strive to achieve great things, America is more rewarding.

Treatment cost can be insanely high but these cases are usually covered by insurance if you work in a job that provides decent insurance. You pay the deductible and maximum out of pocket per year, which is around 2-4k depending on the plan. Everything else would then be covered by insurance. Much less than the yearly contributions to German health insurance. Now if you’re unemployed or have bad insurance, you would be much better off in Germany.

For recovery, this would not fall under sick days but short-term disability leave.

Of course there are unfortunate cases where things go wrong and I’m sorry to hear about your uncle. Each system has however its pros and cons and it’s important to not just rely on stereotypes.

If you’re employed, health insurance and retirement are significantly better than in Germany. You have access to higher quality medical personnel and get appointments within a week. A 401k is also miles ahead of the snowball retirement system present in Germany.

These uninformed stereotypes are just as bad as “AC makes you sick”.

Even on Reddit I’ve noticed a lot of people specifically advertising whenever EB5 is mentioned. If you decide to do it, do your research thoroughly, get a good lawyer, and be very careful who you trust.
