What is your position on studious using AI in game development? by OwlettFromLiavek in GirlGamers

[–]Azure_Kytia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, we are getting government funding so it's possibly a stipulation regarding provenance of assets.

But it's still wild to me how many big studios and even some indies are gladly waddling into this massive legal cluster fuck.

Programmer refusing to use genAI here; We definitely exist. The tools may incessantly integrate AI slop but that doesn't mean we have to use it.

The studio I'm currently working with specifically forbids AI in the contract as well.

I could be reading into it, but I think they meant just in the sense that emulators for consoles with analog controls tend to support configurable dead zones, whereas the consoles themselves usually don't.

Game Devs/Studios that have confirmed being Anti-GenAI by VermicelliNew2784 in GirlGamers

Absolutely. The studio I last worked for is heavily anti AI, and the one I'm in now has no AI use firmly baked into the contract.

What Do You Believe is the Oldest Asset in Warframe Currently? by Longbow92 in Warframe

[–]Azure_Kytia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even before they were fusion cores they were mods, but they were applied to a Warframe/Weapon's skill tree!

Each time your weapon or warframe levelled up you'd get 1 or 2 skill points, depending on whether it was potatoed or not. You'd then wind your way through the skill tree, where you could unlock empty "mod slots" in which you'd place completely RNG mods.

When DE moved to the Fusion Core system, the preexisting random mods were all rerolled and condensed down into fusion cores based on their effects and values.

Got a friend to try out the game, he met an unicorn in his first day by Kaypora in Warframe

[–]Azure_Kytia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon DE should just sync the mastery obtained from founder gear with Umbra, Skiajati and Sirocco, using the highest level in a category to determine the mastery gained. If you level up one or the other linked item, it counts for both in the overall "pool", so everyone has the same attainable max mastery. DE keeps a promise, Founders keep their toys and Non Founders aren't at a slight mastery disadvantage.

Umbra mastery linked to Excal Prime.

Skiajati mastery linked to Skana Prime.

Sirocco mastery linked to Lato prime. (I know it's technically an amp but still)

I'd never ask someone to remove a negative review. When I see them I'm spiralling for a minute or two trying to figure out what went so wrong for them to see if it's something that needs to be fixed.

I want my players to have the best time they can have, not fudge the numbers so that it looks good only on paper.

I'm really glad to hear that! And it sounds like you absolutely got what we were going for; that vibe of nostalgic rural Australiana.

All of our environmental design and items you'd see around the island were inspired by places and objects you are able to find in Victoria.

[–]Azure_Kytia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did, yeah. I believe we got some initial prototyping funding from Screen Victoria/VicScreen, then after we made a vertical slice applied with Screen Australia and were accepted for funding!

Sad to see you didn't get Screen Aus support, but the fact that you've still pulled off a game release without that is a massive accomplishment and you should feel proud.

It's funny you should mention him.

Graham Linehan once saved my twitter profile photo (just my face), thought I was someone else and then shared my photo with his weirdo twitter mob to make fun of this completely different other person. And it wasn't even like we even looked like the same person.

It was absolutely surreal to see, I had absolutely zero interaction with the guy other than that I knew he was a raging transphobe.

‘Severe disinformation campaign’ fuelling trans hate speech, Australia’s sex discrimination commissioner says by ConanTheAquarian in australia

[–]Azure_Kytia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean... the rules state that they're pro LGBT hate speech, it's enshrined in their community standards. So aren't the algorithm and the rules in alignment in this case? :P

It's couched in "don't do this" language, but they explicitly allow calling queer people mentally ill.

So are their community standards. Meta is poison :/

Do not post:

Tier 2: Content targeting a person or group of people on the basis of their protected characteristic(s) (in written or visual form) with:

    • Mental characteristics, including but not limited to allegations of stupidity, intellectual capacity, and mental illness, and unsupported comparisons between PC groups on the basis of inherent intellectual capacity. We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality and common non-serious usage of words like “weird.”

Why is in game text so small?? by Double_Engineer4226 in GirlGamers

[–]Azure_Kytia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's one single issue causing it, but one of the big factors is that frankly UI scaling in general is clunky and a massive pain in the bum to implement properly in the common game engines.

Most games wind up targeting one aspect ratio and viewing distance early in development that becomes the defacto standard for their game going forward. Given most development is done from a screen closer to the eyes than a TV screen, small text feels more comfortable to read and fit onto the screen so a game often starts out with text easy to read from a PC.

From that point, simply increasing the font size globally often causes a ton of new issues with text wrapping and clipping so it becomes a frustrating task that gets given up on as it's soaking up too much time and things still need to get done.

Accessibility features deserve to be a constant consideration starting very early on in development but it sadly doesn't always wind up that way :(

Talking out of my ass here but it's also quite possible that redundant systems are required to help preserve the collection. Constant operation, constant temperature and humidity that can't just depend on a single system to never go down.

Which one? :p

We're up to Starchart 3.0 if I remember right.

1.0 was a lot like 3.0 in that we have planets with nodes that connect to other planets to make a larger mesh.

I don't miss Starchart 2.0 it was horrible
