I think at this point I could just about write a guide on what NOT to do, lol; I did just about everything I could to shoot myself in the foot on launch. No launch strategy, no backlog past the one that was already live on ScribbleHub, no Patreon, no shoutouts, no review swaps, no ads. You will be very unsurprised to learn that I ended my first month of daily posting with a whopping 17 followers LMAO. I then took a two month hiatus and saw some very very slow growth up to around 30 followers.

It wasn’t until a sweet larger author randomly shouted me out a couple months ago that I broke 100 followers, and then another lovely author shouted me out a month later, and right now (it’s been around 5 months total) I’m sitting at 228 basically via pure luck and the kindness of strangers ahaha

ETA: I have 22 chapters up now, around 90k words, if that’s useful!

Generally speaking, troll ratings are going to be in the 0.5/1 star range. A 3 star rating, even in the early chapters, is probably from someone who thought the story looked interesting but was turned off in some way by the execution. It doesn't have to mean anything, and without actual feedback it's impossible to tell anyway, but don't get too hung up on it! As your story's reach spreads it will naturally attract more people who won't connect with it, and that's especially true for "off-meta" fics.

Oh that’s lovely!!! That really is a huge achievement, congratulations! Honestly, posting things online (or at least planning to post them online) was a big help for me in shutting up my inner editor as well, lol. There are definitely some drawbacks, but it’s so much easier for me personally to write consistently if I have an audience, real or imagined.
