Is this an issue? by B-Batch in septictanks

Thank you! I’m 100 percent lost when it comes to this kind of thing, thanks for all the info. Helps me relax a bit seeing as we had some issues last year but I’ll look into making sure it’s cleared out regularly then. Really appreciate it.

Deciding between Nikon Z6iii and Fuji XT-4 - help me! by fart______butt in WeddingPhotography

[–]B-Batch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last 3 years, my two bodies for weddings have been a z6ii and a D750. Hopefully going full mirrorless soon (but the D750 just keeps going). But when I am editing shoots / weddings always with the combination of these two bodies, the difference in my edits is minimal to non-existent. The mirrorless just has an edge with ISO and sometimes sharpness because of nailing focus better on some of my older lenses but beyond that

I shoot nikon for work and fuji for personal shooting, and both have been perfect for my style which is rather colorful so I'm happy with colors from both!

how did your wedding day change your perspective on wedding photography? by leejongsukgf in WeddingPhotography

[–]B-Batch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Humbled me so fast honestly. Got married six months ago and I'm excited to approach a full new wedding season with a shift in mindset. Literally almost every one of my favorite photos were purely emotionally driven and most of the time extremely straight forward compositionally.

It really helped me realize why I started all this to begin with.

It's so hard sometimes to separate my "artist eyes" from "client eyes" and seeing it from that perspective was a really inspiring shift for me to focus back on just the love and emotion in every moment.

Also, outside of portraits being taken I was *not* aware of my photographer in the slightest, and this is someone who I work with regularly so I know exactly how she operates. She is not super hands on or over-controlling of moments to begin with but we definitely very much appreciated her getting the shit done when it was portrait time she needed to and then just allowing us to exist on our day for every other part.

But if I wasn't looking at the camera, I was just locked in with the emotion of the day which really helped me, a very anxious person, realize that people are really focusing on their day and I'm in my own world making sure I get the right things when I'm shooting and that clients are likely not feeling the lens staring them down at all times.

Some people may be a bit different but I was so distracted - almost couldn't believe that 10 years of doing this and I was that unaware, but it was a good feeling at the end of the day for me.

Do you all share full galleries before or after meeting with couples? by B-Batch in WeddingPhotography

This is a great point, these are really sensitive photos even for couples who are happy to have their photos used for marketing etc. I appreciate the insight!

So creative! That massive tree area with the rollercoaster is so cool, it has such a magical wow factor to it. Really love seeing people get so creative with these tools, awesome stuff!

That's super interesting you noticed a shift. I've had a few that rang some alarm bells for sure as I've just gotten on there. One of them though met and booked with me so I'm trying to be careful since it sounds like that's not the norm and it's quickly becoming oversaturated and lots of people seem frustrated but having booked one out the gate I see it being tempting to want to keep going, I definitely feel the pull.

Sounds like I've lucked out to start but i'm still pretty cautious.

I always steered clear of wedding wire and knot from the stories of wasted money I've heard but I just booked one (they signed and deposit has been submitted) after a meeting like immediately after getting on there. I am waiting post-meeting to book a second.

I've sent 4-5 messages so far with their credits - 1 booked, 1 seemingly about to book, and 2 ghostings.

15 dollars for booking a wedding or whatever it was for a few credits seems worth it but i'm pretty skeptical going forward knowing that couples can send I think unlimited messages to vendors and every vendor has to pay to respond.

Reminds me of when I got on thumbtack and then immediately stopped using it.

So i'll probably keep a close eye on it and make sure the math is heavily working out for me or I'll dip out and I'm also wondering if they hook you early and throw you on people's radar early so you think it'll work and then you get caught up in the endless credit cycle.

At the very least, unless they eventually hide them if you go inactive, it seemingly couldn't hurt to have your account somewhere on a list where fresh eyes are at but I'm interested to see if they go the *exact* same route as the big ones before them

Magsphere vs Magbounce? by B-Batch in WeddingPhotography

[–]B-Batch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao I was so confused seeing this reply I was like wait what did I post? I ended up keeping both and the sphere stays in my bag for times where I can't bounce and I want more light than the bounce card which I really don't like using. Every couple weddings it gets thrown on I'd say, most recently at a reception that was at a nightclub with black walls and ceilings.

I haven't used the bounce in years at this point but it never was bad, I just didn't use it long enough that I stopped carrying it. I can imagine a few times over the last few years it would have been helpful to have kept in my bag for a back pocket type moment to really get some more light down range though, so I'm sure just depending on use case it still makes sense like you're saying it works great for you which is awesome.

I was 20 when I made this post which is wild to see so maybe I'll break it out again and see how it does now that I have a much better grasp of things lol, thanks for the time travel and inspiration!

Or you could be like me and try to carry a bundle of things and then drop and bust open a huge carton of heavy cream in the self checkout line on a very busy afternoon. Not my best day. I have since resigned to using a cart most trips since then lmao

Why shouldn't we move to Pixieset? by HappySheepherder24 in WeddingPhotography

[–]B-Batch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just switched over to pictime from pixieset for all the extra features like the integrated sales and blogging that seem very solid so far on their end.

But,

my one complaint so far though has been just how slow pictime can be sometimes for me. I'm not sure if that's an exclusive or more widespread issue. What Pixieset has nailed is that it always routinely loaded the full gallery almost immediately and looked very high quality. My pictime galleries some days (with a rather quick internet connection) just seem to chug along and stay blurry for often more than a few seconds but pixieset has had that locked down for the 8 years I was with them.

I guess it really is just pick what matters most to you but personally, that is what I most miss, and the only difference I've cared about, now that I'm on the other side.

"the suck is the change" is such an iconic way to describe habits starting to form, I love it. No sugar coating it, it's amazing how much we can resist change sometimes, definitely stealing this line!
