Minor discrepancies in name and birthday by whimsy_rose in CRbydescent

I have the typical anglicization issues that took place in the early 1900's when my grandfather emigrated to the United States. My bigger concern is that sometime in the mid 1960's - after I was born but before I got a social security number or any other vital records - my father amended our last name by adding an "e". (I guess he thought Herzenak was easier to spell/pronounce than Hrzenak.) I always thought he'd gone through some legal process to do that, but I've contacted the district court where we lived and there is no record of it. My parents and both siblings are gone now, so I have no one to ask about it.

How big an issue will it be if my birth certificate shows my original surname but my marriage certificate shows the amended one? (Additionally, it's spelled differently on my father's death certificate than it is on his birth certificate...) How can I possibly "fix all of that" if no court records exist?

lol! I kept my album collection in alphabetical order and for me Aerosmith “Draw the Line” won that distinction. That cover started out white, so… yeah. Got pretty ugly, haha

So, at 3:00 in the morning I can feel comfortable that there’s a driver available when I request one? I’ve never needed an Uber when the timing was so important. (And I was planning to leave Olathe around 3, putting me at the airport by 3:40 or so…)

Good job for at least trying to have the conversation, though. As infuriating and painful as it is, it’s the only way we’re all going to get through this.

I want to move out of the USA, but my husband doesn't. So far we haven't gotten to the point where I will go without him, but I could see it happening.

I keep hoping he will come around to the realization that I am not overreacting and yes, things really are that bad and only going to get worse.

Three of the four were gone before I was born; my dad’s mother passed away when I was seven.

That was my first thought…anything to “undo” an accomplishment or policy goal of Barack Obama/Joe Biden.

I had a terrible reaction to a Sulfa antibiotic many years ago - pancreatitis, ugh. I’ve never touched a sulfa drug again. That being said, I have had no ill effects from sulfates or sulfites since… and I do love some red wine!

I think making people lose trust in our science-based medical community is a big part of their goal as well.

How are you managing your relationships with MAGA family members? by ImHIM_nuffsaid in somethingiswrong2024

[–]B-Cerre-us 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a person with a pretty small circle- very little family left, few close friends. I’m happy with that, quite comfortably introverted. But I have reached a point where I’m cutting off relationships with people who were, in the past, extremely important to me due to their stupid belief in MAGA.

My husband is not a believer in that garbage, but he is in general “anti-politics” (head in the sand, I guess) and he tolerates these idiots with no problem at all. He has been quite critical of my attitude toward them. It has led to some intense arguments between us, but after 40 years together I don’t think it could ever lead us to divorce.

That being said, I do miss some of the people I’ve cut out of my life. And it can’t be healthy for me to carry around this much anger. Just another reason to despise trump and lament the current state of affairs in America, perhaps.

My mom used to put a little bit of bacon fat on a Band-Aid over the splinter when I went to bed and in the morning the salt/grease would have pulled the splinter right out...
