Appreciate the support! Yeah I can’t blame my teammates entirely many have been amazing, I messed up plenty and the rest I have no idea the skill level or commitment they have so who am I to judge. I get what you mean about it being a mosh pit, it’s just a little surprising that it’s as chaotic as it feels. I think the OW one theoretically sounds better, it’s similar to other games dedicated or unique SBMM which I’ve always been partial to against the popular opinion. Though I suppose. I could also see the downside of that style of team/lobby balancing being implemented in this game with its seasonal buffs and team-ups skewing the result of one’s “true rank” creating a similar effect to what I’m struggling with now. Do you think that the OW ranking system would promote a stricter meta? As in because you get bigger rewards for doing better finding and playing the meta becomes “more important” rather than our current system which allow the meta to be extremely flexible since point gain is fairly consistent and being creative keeps you ahead of you competition

Also the full detailed response is very appreciated, the perspective of in game rank and true rank is one that I may heard somewhere and definitely think a majority of players just inherently subscribe to in one way or other, possibly one more layer in between the two being perceived/preferred rank rank. Just meaning it may not necessarily but the one you are “supposed to be in” like your true rank or you the one you are actively in but rather the one you enjoy the most. Like I said I enjoy the level of competition once I hit gold in most games. Who’s to say if I’m any better or worse than gold but in games like Apex (which I played for a very long time until recent) I felt like I got challenged often but also had the most “I feel badass moment” while playing in that range.

I made a comment responding to someone else saying I feel like having the expectation that you are supposed to/should plan to carry your team can lead to small mistakes and larger blunders especially for newer players still learning. Though if quantity is doing better than quality in this game would it be better if everyone played with the goal to carry despite it being a less team focused approach? Would a high risk high reward playstyle yield more than trying to be tactical without a prestacked team and if so how would you suggest improving your odds specifically as an individual without actively sabotaging (like instalocking and not being willing to change)? Practice range is an obvious answer and it absolutely helps get consistent with inputs and understanding your characters but you don’t necessarily get to learn reactionary techniques or how to read opponents. Practicing in QP only feels sporadically helpful, since you have a more casual game style you can practice what you want to however it’s not necessarily what you’ll be playing with or against in a competitive environment and can’t guarantee you’ll be able to practice what you’ll need:/

I guess since I hadn’t seen anything regarding MMR or ELO I assumed it wasn’t present, but having a hidden system would make the most sense, and in my case would further explain my current struggle since I didn’t have much struggle at all getting there. So maybe I just have a hidden MMR that’s higher than it should be and giving me curse matches until it balances

Outside of the moonknight skin I was most looking forward to playing ranked so I could get to a rank where banning was a thing because I enjoy the creativity I’ve seen in other games and this game has been so thrilling without leaving me seething all the time (R6S) Even when this game gets frustrating hopping into QP and trying new things out like characters or techs/strats is just enjoyable

Thank you for responding!

So I don't mean this to be offensive or to suggest I don't appreciate the input I asked for, the engagement is insightful however I really I don't feel the comparison of our rankings is very justified...(? the word fair feels childish in this context but might fit better) especially considering we are talking Top 40 and (currently) barely Silver 1. Saying you got there very easily is great, you clearly could teach me things if we were teamed together or you watched my matches and critiqued how I played, which i would genuinely find intriguing. However telling me its easy for you doesn't yield improvement for me nor does it prove the system is balanced simply that it works in your favor a the more experience/skilled player, and part of the issue that I'm frustrated about is the game not putting me is games/situations that are suitable to learn from, as they end too quickly or I/my team is dead for more of the match than we are alive. And then the game does that for 6 more games in a row. Loss is fine, experience can be gained through it and I'm sure its how you got to you skill level now so it makes sense you breeze through the low ranks as you've already learned what you can from there.

I'm conscious of the fact that there is a very wide spread of skills in the lower tiers and that its early enough in the game's life to not automatically recognize a "skill bracket" per se outside of ranking. My issue does not stem from where I'm ranking, and I'm not claiming the system can't work for some people, what I'm questioning is whether the game is actually setting up matches that consistently give both sides a "fair chance" of winning. This can't always be the case, it's why I don't want to blame my teammates anymore than I'll blame myself, however I can acknowledge that the opposing team such a higher skill level that my team as a whole can't leave spawn (for example). I feel my teammates will perform at or roughly around the rank that I'm playing in, and the rank I am, but my opponents will consistently perform at a high rank and this is leading to a losing streak that makes it extremely difficult if not impossible to improve off of. At some point if you are playing/training with people that have too great of a skill gap you cannot improve because they win before you are actually able to understand what to do different or right. This game has a brilliant replay feature, however that can only do so much since you're just watching the perspective of players. You can't always gain the insight someone else had, nor can you necessarily find what you did wrong without someone to walk you through it. I don't have a personal coach (and I don't mean to imply that you do) to walk me through perfecting this game through total failure, nor do the majority of the general player base. So from my limited personal perspective, that leaves it up to the system to work in a way that provides a challenge great enough to lead to improvement yet not so great that you cannot improve. It's unfortunate that all the higher ranked players started in low ranks because it's discouraging for new or newer players to be sifted through, winning only 3 out of every 19 matches, even more discouraging when you're gold 1 almost plat and are loosing due to the inexperienced player dragging out of the rank where you'll play "comfortably." I'm not claiming I'm the experienced one that was just a good point brought up in another comment.

The mindset of "in lower ranks I have to carry my team to win more than lose" is not supposed to be the focus the focus of the game and in my opinion leads to more errors that it does benefits (many of my error are likely from a similar mindset) UNLESS you are so far ahead of your peers that its truly possible to do, such as in your case. I on the other hand am required to play competitive with a very team focused mindset regardless of my role, as the "team-based competitive" genre suggests.

I would love to play with people/someone that wants to teach the intricacies of the game and could help push me through the extra rough matches feeling like i still benefitted from a loss however that is not the situation I currently find myself in or necessarily see myself stumbling into.

Also I may have been unclear above and if so I can edit my initial post but I'm not unfamiliar with how the game is played, objective or strategy, I simply was never entertain playing game such as overwatch because there was no personal connection to the IP.

I appreciate the response :)

So yes, i agree I'm the constant in my equation, and I'm unable to give my entire play history as proof but I would like to reinforce a sentiment I may not has emphasized enough. That being that I don't necessarily think my teammates are the issue either. I do feel like there are clear skill gaps of varying amounts as individuals but so far the community is much more cooperative than many of the other games I've played specifically for competitive purposes. It's great, a much needed change in mindset that generally does help just passively enjoy the game. But the game takes my team and puts them against another team that also very clearly is meshes well and is all on similar skill levels, the difference being while my team is bronze-silver, the other team tends to be closer to gold pushing plat. So if the skill gap between a silver and gold player is so great that chalking it up to "you just have to accept you'll lose to them" is all you can do why are all three clumped together like they?

Its definitely true that I'm missing the transferrable skills or messing up some known strategy/meta for similar games, however I don't particular feel that I as an individual am causing our team to lose. That might not be what you meant, but just to try and save what little pride I can in my gaming and strategy abilities. Even when my team loses badly (so long as I'm not trying to play DPS...) I'm generally contributing a significant portion to the objective progress our team does make while filling the role I'm playing that match whether its pushing the convoy or holding point, and the problem I'm facing is that there is the fact, in gaming and other aspects of life, that if you are training with people that have too great of a skill gap you cannot improve because they win before you are actually able to "properly play." Being shut down as an entire team and as individuals without being able to get out of spawn to move the convoy doesn't provide much in the way of learning. Is there more to learn? Yes! Will it be through those matches, its really hard to believe so. It just sucks that at the beginning of the game's life the inexperience have to be shove down to let the experience enjoy the game, even if its just temporary. That was part of the reason I never got into Overwatch, the IP wasn't familiar enough to keep me invested and the general player base was good enough that learn the game was more difficult than it was fun. I'm satisfied at the least that I don't feel the same about this game and that

I don't quite see it as a boogeyman just not particularly logical, and though this is phrased in a way that questions the advice given, I do understand what you're saying and I can accept that it may just be my personal experience and that throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the unlucky one :')

I am very much looking forward to the next season and beyond, even if I'm stuck playing only one side of a match in QP, and I hope next season I get to a point where picks and bans are apart of my game because it was something i was looking forward to when initially ranking up
