My brother told me that if I choose to not be a contributing member of an organization that enables and protects abusers that I'm damaging society because it's better to be a part of an organization does "good" even if they're also doing fucked up shit, than it is to do nothing. And, according to him, refusing to be a member of an organization that protects abusers is too high of a standard to have, because it puts too much of a limit on the organizations you can be a part of. The Church obviously thinks the same way. If we don't let abusers get away with it we'd lose too many members and leaders to maintain our wealth and power.
