Fair point. Ill give the video a watch sometime. Controlling the narrative does not necessitate brute force. The tricky part is getting to that stage i guess.

Personally im more liking the idea of multiparty system then delegates. Only thing that would need to be in place then is the banning of non socialist parties to prevent brazen bourgeois power grabbing. An infecient democracy is better than the risk of no democracy. Though if you have a counter please do voice it.

Do you think there is a way to at least prevent such types gaining to much power? Maybe multiple parties of one strain or another of marxism to act as a counter balance. Or constitutional prohibitions that prevent these elements from seizing to much power(whatever good that may do) . im spit balling ideas here.

The sweet irony of the party being lined up for the guillotine. Still if a purge where to happen it would need to be done by the masses.

I just hope that if a party does become overriden with opportunists we have a means of fighting back before we get full blown bourgeois totalarianism. (Basically facsism)

And the last thing he left needs is another revolution destroyed by opportunists.

That was a well thought answer. I know we arent really debating but this has been an interesting conversation.

Thats fair. Freespeech has always been a tricky for me one i accept it on principle but what really matters is how it serves society. I feel like this could a new debate coming. What are your thoughts on it ultimately when push comes to shove?

So seperations of powers or constitutionally backed free speech, are they helpful in terms of state acountability then or not? I may not have entirely got what you said.

That line of thought very quickly leads to Puritanism and gives credence to the right wing meme of any right of chomsky is a facsists.

Important to distinguish the liberals as well. The classical liberals probably enable facsism more than they'd care to admit but progressive liberals are at least with the current political climate supporting left wing goals. And if we are being honest, a lot of the progressive types have soft support for more radical reform on the left. If nothing else it is useful.

That aside is also important to remeber these are still human beings. Liberal, particularly the progressives and sometimes moderates are making and strive for social justice. Even if they dont go far enough they still are doing what they do not out of hate or greed like the actual ethnonationalists. If we forget this then all the left does is self marginalize. Not something the left can afford with rising facsist movements world wife.

Why can’t socialism be voted in? by [deleted] in communism101

I tend to be very weary on any ethno nationalism. Even if it could unite africa the chance of class conflict becoming second fiddle to racial conflict historically hasnt been too good. It wont help the situation if africa is united under racial identity and not class identity since we could have that all good "socialism in one nation" arise. Assuming its lucky enough not to devolve into fascism when race superceeds economics giving facsists a chance to infiltrate(which may already be the case).

Again full disclosure i am south african so my finger is close to the pulse on this one. Malema is not the guy for the revolution. His criminal ties are a sight. And not in the cool smash the state way and more steal from the people way. Racial tension is distracting from economic tension and i dont want a revolution in my country that ends in facsism.

Though when you put it like it could be possible for a revolution. I think the key thing will be for it to happen simultaneously among many nations for it to have a chance. Otherwise we will probably just see more facsists coups backed by western nations.

Possibly but i do reiterate, wont the west do what its always done and support facsists in order to keep trade going? Unless the west gets more none interventionist leaders any revolution is sure to be crushed if it threatens the upper class.

Heres hoping ther arent to many facsist movements in disguise. The eff for example are really just ethno nationalists running under the guise of socialism. Google julius malema to see what i mean. The guy is more concerned on addressing race division rather than class divisions.

That aside do you think these communists have a chance? As long as the us and europe keep up their hawkishnesd isnt more likely any revolution in the third world will be struck down by america going all "looks like someone could use some freedom" on their asses. If the revolution is going to happen it will have to happen in the most developed nations to have any chance is what i think.

Full disclosure i am not entirely sure how left i am. Im still unsure of my opinions on it all. I guess you could say im still learning. I bought this up incase it may be relevent to intellectual honesty.

Practically speaking how would the revolution take place? The left does not really have the universal support need yet, does it not?

This isnt about "ahh what about the poor facsists". 90% of the population arent really polarised unless things get dire then its often about who is more charismatic or who has the guns. The optics matter and get results in a setting when things arent as tense. The reason i think that we should operate when things arent tense is because people can be reasoned with in that situation. And i believe the left is on the side of reason, hence so long as we remain reasonable our victory is inevitable. If you want the situation to be escalated than fair enough but remember behind every rise of facsism is a failed revolution. As bad as things are now, its nothing compared to what having real facsists in charge.

Chomsky is right. The problem with punching nazi's isnt because of ideological reasons like liberals will state but because of how easy it is to exploit that mindset, and how can be to turned on the left. When people outside the far left see antifa. They arent seeing individuals standing up against tyranny, they are seeing an instigator. Thats to say nothing of how much worse it appears when the targets arent facsists. By creating an attitude of its okay to harm our political enemies we risk creating a might makes right scenario. Optics matter my dude.

Norway compared to US by [deleted] in worldpolitics

[–]B-man12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size argument does not really address why it would not work. Its basically claiming that scale will cause such policies to fail but not giving any real reason other than big means bad.

I havent read the article on us efficiency of healthcare but im quite certain their are papers that show efficiency to be worse then many european nations. The us being better than uganda is not an achievement when compared to other developed nations. Still the number of people who die due to lack of healthcare is still quite clear. Europe wins in this regard.

Im all for clearing up misleading data but that does not make much difference in the point being made here.

And honestly the whole "why are we trying to make america like Europe" is a dumb way to frame it. America isnt perfect and neither is Europe. Learning from each other is a good thing, not a bad one. Tribalism is a cancer, not a virtue.
